I didn't see anybody else talking about UMMC, so I decided to start a thread to see if anybody else has applied there.

I was invited for an interview today and will be going for my interview on August 15th!

I'm applying here too but have not heard anything yet. I don't see a lot of UMMC applicants on here. Did ou get a call from Mrs. Linda?

No, the lady who called me was named Becky. I've been emailing Mrs. Linda back and forth, but once she has processed and evaluated your application, she hands it over to the application committee.

If you don't mind me asking, where are you from?

Cool, the last time I emailed her, she told me that she would input all of my data, then give me an update once it's done. How long ago did you complete your app? MMI is gonna be pretty stressful I bet.
And I'm from Hattiesburg, I go to USM. You?

I turned my app in on the day it opened (July 1). Everything else was sent a couple days later. I got the "application complete" email yesterday and the invitation call today.

I'm from Brookhaven. I go to MSU

Ok, I still have not received the email yet, may be sometime this week. Did you ever attend the impressions program back in March? Anyway, best of luck to ya, we might interview on the same day.

No, I did not ever attend the impressions program. I never heard of or saw anything about any programs they did there. I wish I had, though!

Good luck to you, too!

Glad to have you on this thread, let us know how it goes. Good luck !

Not sure if y'all noticed, but the UMC SOD website says that they have moved the earliest date of acceptance up to August 30th. Since most (if not all) other schools don't accept until December 1st, I emailed Linda Jordan. She confirmed that they actually will start accepting people as early as August 30th this year because they have a new admissions chair person.

Yep, a friend of mine applied to med school at UMC and got an acceptance email after 1 week from the interview. it makes sense because UMC doesn't even use AADSAS.

Hi Everybody, My daughter was considering applying to Ole Miss Medical School recently. She has a degree in biology, great grades, but she has been out of school for about 3 years. I am originally from Mississippi but we are currently living in Indiana. Later this year I intend to move back home. When she called the admissions office she was told that they no longer will take out of state students due to funding. That seemed a bit strange to me. Has anyone else heard of any of this?

Hi Magnolia Mom, It is true that UMC does not accept out of state residents. I'm pretty sure they stated this clearly on their website. Good luck to your daughter !

Illinois 9
UCLA 7
Florida 6
Baylor 6
UT-SA 6
Georgia 5
S. Illinois 0
Miss 0
E Carolin 0
UT Hou 0

Thanks. We must have overlooked it but we are applying elsewhere for her. I do think it is a shame if they have that policy.

I personally don't think it's a shame. It's hard enough to keep residents in this state as it is. The goal is to accept students who have maintained long term residency in the state, so that they are more likely to to give back by practicing here. There is already a deficit of health care providers in the state, so by keeping it to residents only, it indirectly helps out the community. I know for sure if I get into UMC- that's where I will be attending 🙂

I just found this thread y'all. I also have an interview at UMC SOD on the 15th! which is in the morning! :scared:

If you don't mind me asking, what are your stats?

I thought the interview was a good experience. We had to sign a non-disclosure agreement to not disclose the names of the interviewers or any of the questions asked. I am sure that most know the sort of questions to prepare for though such as, "why do you want to be a dentist" and "tell me about yourself". All of the interviewers were very nice and down to earth. Everyone will have 7, ten minute interviews. There were 2 groups of interviewees. In my group there were 7 of us and we started at 8am. Jkb, were you in the next group? How many of you were there?

I am wondering if the interviewers know anything about you or is it a blind interview?

Andrew, it's a blind interview. In fact, you aren't allowed to say the names of any school you have attended or are currently attending.

Sedge04, I was in the 10:00 AM group. We also had 7 people in our group.

If anyone hears about being accepted or denied could you please post on here so we are able to know about when they are starting to let everyone know. Thanks and good luck to all!

Acdowns, have you interviewed yet?

Congratulations! How were you notified of your acceptance?

I got home last night around 10:30pm and there were 10 missed calls starting at about 7pm from the same number (I left my phone at home). I called the number back because I figured it must have been important. It was Dr. O'reilly she told me that I was accepted!

Lol I got 8 missed calls as well, I can't believe she answered my phone at 9 p.m. I was super surprised because I just interviewed last weeks. Best day everrrr !!!

Congrats guys. You can all relax now. haha. Congrats.

Anyone received their acceptance letter yet?

Nope, have you? Dr. O'Reilley said her assistant will be sending out letters on Monday though.

We have 15 days to RSVP. I went ahead and stuck my letter in the mailbox.

Well I'm living in Clinton at the moment. Not too far from umc, about 20 minutes. . I may just stay here. What about you?

Lucky you, I might look for a cheap house to buy and rent out some rooms to other students. Anyway, I really thought we'd receive an acceptance package instead of just the letter. Is this you first time applying?

I have an apartment in Ridgeland so I'll just be staying here. I really like it in Ridgeland and it's only about a 10 minute drive to school.

Congratulations Y'all, I just found this thread. I interviewed on the 15th in the 8AM group. I thought it went well, but I still haven't heard anything.

Do you guys know of anyone else who has been accepted?

Wasn't that the very first interview they had? I interviewed on the 22, and got the call on the 29th. But it doesn't mean that you are rejected. They are just interviewing more folks to see if they can find a better candidate. If they didn't like you, you'd have received the rejection letter already. Keep your hopes up !

Yeah it was the first one. I am just wondering if they are starting the second set. When did you get your app in?

From talking with Dr. O'Reilly this is how I understand the process, and you may know this stuff but maybe it will enlighten someone:

They have "sets" of interviews that last two weeks, then on the third week they meet and talk about everyone (so I am guessing 28 people for this first set). She said that she presents the students in the order of highest "application score" plus "interview score". Then they read your personal statement and vote on you. If you get 80% of the committee's vote then you are in. If not you are either rejected or deferred. If you are either of these, you do not hear anything until A. they talk about you again (after the next set of interviews) and accept you or B. the class fills up and they send you a rejection letter. She also said they may not finish discussing the first set the first day they meet and that they would pick back up where they left off the next time.

My hopes are high, I am just about to go crazy thinking about what is taking so long. But it is early. I just need to relax.

Those that got accepted, how many times have you all applied or interviewed to UMC?
