Anyone else seriously considering attending UPS this coming fall? I haven't visited, but hoping to make a trip up before the end of the month.
I am. I was able to visit the campus with my gf - she also applied to ups but for mot- last august (2016) and we were really happy with what the programs offered and the general feel of the classes and campus was great!

Cool! Did you get a chance to talk to anyone or see any classes while you were there? They were pretty great about setting me up to meet with students and sit in on some classes. I'm hoping the visit will give me a good feel for the school, though I wish they did a more formal accepted students thing.

Where are you guys from? I'd moving up to Tacoma from the southwest if I decide to go for it.
Have you put down a deposit yet?

For those accepted to the program - when do you have to accept their offer by?

Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to talk to any students because they were on their break between summer and fall semester. I did get a private info session and tour of Weyerhaeuser Hall along with a campus tour by the program director, Dr. Boyles. He's great!

I can't remember everything, but I do remember their pediatric and hospital sim labs. Ive worked with children with special needs for about 8 years now and that sim lab reflects things you will see in a classroom or pediatric clinic. I believe they had one or two rooms dedicated as hospital settings which was also realistic, but not the best I've seen (Regis university had a life size breathing and blinking doll for their sim lab along with full functioning monitors). Again, I can't remember too much of the details at ups, but I remember being very impressed.

The entire building was built to the specifications and input of each program that it contains - pt, ot, and psych. Speaking of which, some classes will be shared with ot students, which I think is always a good thing. There is also an outdoor play structure for kids which is surrounded by obstacles that you'll normally encounter in areas like a park (steps, benches, ramps, etc.). That entire area is walled off so to keep the privacy of the patients.

Sorry for the long response, but I hope I was able to answer your question. Don't hesitate to ask if you need more clarification. We are coming from Los Angeles, but I think we will put down a deposit at the end of this week. When is your visit? Let us know what you think.

I am most likely accepting my UPS admission offer! 🙂 UPS seems like a solid program albeit a bit pricey.

Congratulations! Yeah I feel you on that one. I'm giving up a lot for this program, but I think my gf and I would be robbing ourselves of such a unique opportunity if we do not accept going to ups. Where are you coming from?

Thanks! Congrats to you and your girlfriend as well. I currently live in Renton, WA (not too far from Seattle). I did a campus visit last year and I'm going to go observe once more next week.

Thanks for the details! It's helpful to hear your thoughts on the program. I'm visiting at the end of next week- happy to report back re: how it goes!

How are you guys thinking of doing housing? I've heard that North Tacoma is generally pretty nice, so I imagine I'd try to find something relatively close to campus.

Well that's great! That's a great idea to revisit the campus once more. Please share your thoughts too. It would be great to hear others perspectives.

Yeah we've been lightly looking at housing close to campus as well (about a mile radius from campus). We'd probably look into renting a small 1-2 bdr house or apartment. We haven't discussed sharing housing with others, but I'm sure we'd be open to that. At least I know I would. It is a nice area from what I remember, but my time there was very limited so I didn't get to venture around much.

What did you think of the program from your campus visit last year? I'm visiting this coming week as well.
I really enjoyed it! I attended one of Dr. Danny McMillians Therapeutic Exercise classes (Dr. Danny is awesome)! The students seemed really happy and I had the pleasure of working with some of them on the newly taught exercises. The classroom was aesthetically pleasing and all of the equipment seemed to be in tip-top shape. What's really cool is this room is also utilized for their on-site clinic. UPS's on-site clinic is something that, I think, makes UPS stand out. The more hands-on experience you can get before your off-site clinicals the better.

That's awesome you're visiting too! I'll be there on Friday.

Thank you!

You got it! 😉 I'll post my thoughts/observations after my visit.

I've heard the same about North Tacoma. My boyfriend and I are looking for a townhouse to either buy or rent.

@astarblaze & @blackbeltPT

Aw man that's so cool both of you will be there. I'm so jealous! I wish I could be there too 🙁.
My visit made me feel even more excited about choosing UPS-- the faculty and students are just phenomenal! Are you thinking of putting down the deposit? If you have any questions about the campus or whatnot, feel free to PM me 🙂.
