University of South Florida Medical masters 2014

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I actually emailed Emily Barton last week and she said the program is a little over half full
Thanks for the info. Hopefully most final decisions will go out this month. Since I'm OOS, my only concern is if I get a super late acceptance and have to rush to find housing.

I don't think they will. I think final acceptances will be sent by end of july since Orientation is Aug 20th
I hope not but i was looking at last year's thread and i see two people got accepted literally the week before orientation

For the application part, it says they need a copy of our GRE scores. Does anyone know how to obtain that? I've taken the GRE a few times this year but haven't received any copy of test scores.
i hope you were able to figure this out already. You can log on to your GRE account and request the scores to be sent/reported. That is the official way to do it. It costs like $20 or $30 per request which really SUCKS, but in the end you gotta do what you gotta do. Did you hear from USF yet? I submitted my app In April and got an acceptance email on June 18th.

Has anyone been accepted into (or completed) the online health sciences concentration? Any thoughts on completing the course online versus on campus?
I got accepted to this program, and im on here trying to get info about it as well. Please let me know if you hear anything. Im really curious about the online anatomy course. That sound painful....

Did you apply for the online health sciences program or the in-person MSMS?

God's blessed me! I got my acceptance email for the program this morning!!!

Try messaging jmarkant. He was in the online program and answered all of my questions about it. Really cleared up any concerns I had when it was time to choose a concentration.

When did you apply?
I handed in the completed application packet on May 28th or 29th.
You can email Emily Barton and ask about the status of your application, that's what I did last week.
She told me they would be looking at my application sometime during this week and this morning I received the congratulatory email.

I finally heard back and was accepted! I was also recently accepted to another Medical Masters program. I guess it's decision time...

Did you just straight up ask her when your application would be reviewed?

congrats! what were your stats? i'm dying to find out, and want to see if I stand a chance lol

This is pretty much what I sent her:

"Ms. Barton,

My name is XYZ and I submitted my application for the online M.S. in Health Sciences last month in May.
I'm emailing you to ask for any update on the status of my application.

Thank you for your time"

She responded by telling me that my app would be reviewed in the next week when the admissions committee would be meeting again. About 10 days later I got the congratulatory email and acceptance.

Just be respectful and not too forceful, but remember the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Just send a friendly reminder email to get the ball rolling.

Wow. That would only gives you 2 weeks to get a place, etc.

Its rediculous but i understand they are probably waiting too see if other people have declined acceptance to USF (from what i've heard over half the class has been determined already).
Just quick advice to anyone that hasn't been accepted yet, you can still apply for financial aid with USF so please don't wait until you are potentially accepted.

I am a current MSP3 student graduating this August. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about the program/Tampa. In addition, if you're looking for places to live in Tampa (10-12 min drive to the COM), my landlord is still trying to find a tenant for this upcoming year, and she would prefer an MSP3 or medical student. Best of luck to everyone.

Thank God!
Got accepted this morning...have been waiting since May 7th. So hopefully all who are waiting will hear this week.

Best

You got a response when you emailed them? I just got an automated response that pretty much said to not email asking for admission status lol

I applied prior to the June 1st deadline. I emailed the school earlier in the week to get a possible update. I was told no decision has been made at this point and they are still doing rolling admissions and it can take several weeks. My concern is that its just like a medical school application. They send out denied admission emails after they fill all the seats. I have read the posts and people have been getting positive responses and even specifics on when their application will be reviewed.

@krwalding tried to PM you, but it wouldn't go through. I am attending this Fall and have a couple questions for you about the program

Hey - sorry about that. The conversation setting was turned off for some reason. Give it another try when you get a chance.

If you emailed Emily Barton or the MSMS email, I am pretty sure you get an automated response. I emailed Christina brown, another admissions counselor for the program and she will give you a more positive response. Everyone that hasn't been accepted yet is in the same boat, we all wait listed and hoping somebody turns down their acceptance.

do you know anything about the class being full or not already?

I emailed her yesterday about it and she said it was classified. I guess Oasis says there is between between 40-50 seats still open based on the available seats open for the classes but it could be totally off because theres a chance a number of people could have been admitted but they havent registered for classes yet.
the 1st week of august can't come soon enough......

this is incredibly annoying :yeahright:

Hi everyone, are there still available spots in this program?

Hi, does anyone know if the class is full yet? Has anyone heard back anything?

Has anyone heard anything in the past week regarding spots remaining ; I emailed Christina 4 days ago, still haven't received a response and she is usually responsive to emails........

It feels as if they are just ignoring our emails, or maybe they are getting so much that they aren't able to keep up. But I emailed Christina 3 weeks ago (yeah, 21 days!!!) and have never gotten a response. This is both frustrating and depressing. I just really hope we hear back soon, the wait is nerve wrecking and I just really want a spot.

If you haven't heard back from them by now, it means you did not get in. I emailed Emily Barton and the class is filled. I am not sure why they wait till last minute to notify anyone.

How about the online Health Science concentration? Is that filled as well?

Can anyone speak about the programs success?

In the FAQs it stated that: "Every year our MS in Medical Sciences students successfully matriculate into USF medical school, but we do not have an official linkage or bridge program."

Thanks for letting us know, its pretty unprofessional how the handled admissions, but atleast we know.

The biggest problem with this is that the program is so large and encompasses a lot of different people that it's difficult to gauge its success. The main take away from this is that there is no official linkage and no precedence to how many USF MCOM will take. A lot of other SMP's have a certain percentage that get accepted year after year, but this program doesn't. One year USF may take a lot and next year they may decide not to take a single applicant. However, another big issue is that the program has a very large number of people and your chances of getting into USF MCOM are quite low even if they accept 30-40 people (unlikely number) because each MSMS class has ~250 people. Roll in those that waited a year or more and you have a lot of graduates from the program vying for a spot at MCOM.

I'm not saying the program is bad and I'm sure if you do well you will have success while applying for MD/DO schools. But if you have your heart set on USF MCOM, then only doing well in this program may not be the best way to get there and you're going to need an overall solid application (good GPA/MCAT/ECs) to get there. It would also be in your best interest to expand your horizons and look towards other schools as you're applying as well.

So, TL: DR - don't apply unless you already have solid #'s. Thanks!

I finally heard back from Ms. Barton and I got accepted into the online Health Science program. I'm so excited!!! My application was reviewed yesterday and I got the email this morning. I wish you all luck and I pray that you all might get a spot.

Congrats. Thought you were waiting to hear back from the in person program not the online. Good luck

I actually applied to both programs. The in person one is full and I've been wait listed until a spot opens up but I'm just glad that I got accepted into one of them. and thanks 🙂

I've applied early June and have not heard back. Read other responses that the class is full. Good to know but really wish I was notified. I actually called last week and was told my application has still not been reviewed. Does that mean being wait listed? I'm just confused and frustrated that it takes this long. Congrats to all who have been accepted, best of luck! 🙂

What are my chances for this program?
uGPA 3.56
sGPA 3.40
GRE 299 (V+Q)
Tons of shadowing and volunteering experiences at hospitals.
I am applying for Fall 2015.

It'll be great if I can have some input?
