Hi,

I need help in deciding if I should go to interview at University of Utah. How good is it? I know that its not in top 25 but is it in the top 50? And I want to apply to competitive fellowship.

Thank you for your help

I've heard from various attendings that it is a good program. I think another thread talking about CArds mentioned this program as a good set up for that kind of fellowship. I heard that their ER (I think they have medicine rotate their) is also not too busy due to the lack of drinking and drug use. Versus where I am, we had 22 patients and 21 were withdrawing off something.:hardy:

I heard great things about it as well... in terms of matching, I didn't look at their fellowship match list, but the chair at my school seemed to think that they did very well in terms of fellowship regionally. Not sure what that means, but I assume it means they have a great reputation among those that know them, and a perhaps just a "good" reputation elsewhere?

Utah is a solid IM program with good fellowships...the Cards program is especially good and gaining in reputation...graduating residents are very well prepared to start working or specialize. A huge draw for most residents and faculty is the area...Salt Lake City is a nice, clean city with many things to do, particularly if you like the outdoors. You cannot beat the skiing and you can be in the heart of the mountains in 30 minutes...which is pretty unique.
