The clinical program? I think pretty research oriented from what i know, but they claim a good balance..but more importantly..do you have a POI there?

Yeah, I was looking at Dr. Rohan (mood disorders), Dr. Solomon (Stigma, multicultural), and Dr. Zvolensky (anxiety disorders).

Yeah, I was looking at Dr. Rohan (mood disorders), Dr. Solomon (Stigma, multicultural), and Dr. Zvolensky (anxiety disorders).

That's a lot of different focus areas and may make you look like you aren't very focused - be careful about applying to all 3 of those and be clear in your statement what your research interests are.

Dr. Rohan mostly does research on SAD. Are you interested in SAD? We were just talking about her today actually.

applied there for Fall 10, man slowest department ever as far as processing things, would be a solid fall back, they have good placements in the area, plus the area is beautiful. Absolutely nothing wrong from anecdotal stories of the school, just a bit old like the rest of the east coast.

I had an interview there last year and the program actually struck me as a rather balanced Ph.D. program. To second what someone else said, their facilities seemed a bit old but the students and faculty seemed to really enjoy the program and I got a good overall vibe. Probably someone who attends would be better able to answer more specific questions. One thing I'm pretty sure I remember is that they don't require students to take comprehensive exams for their masters. Don't know how common this is across Ph.D. programs but it sounds good to me! 🙄

Hi everyone,

I have recently decided to apply to the clinical psychology program at the University of Vermont. I would love to here more about their program. Has anyone here attended UVM?

Thanks!

Interviewed there a few years ago and it seemed great. I agree that it seemed pretty balanced and not overly research heavy, though not all faculty members are the same - that is actually why I withdrew my app after getting an offer from my current program - I wanted someplace with a heavier research focus.

Students were super-friendly and nice, I really enjoyed it there.

As for comps, I'm actually not certain about that, but at least when I interviewed you did not do a master's thesis, nor receive a master's degree which I thought was kind of unique and an interesting way of going about it. They decided to cut it completely from the program to stop people from getting caught up in it and stay on track. I think most students are still completing one or more research projects besides the dissertation (and are certainly heavily involved in laboratories), but progression the program is not contingent upon the master's requirements.

Thanks for your insight into the program based on your interview experience! It sure sounds like they have a well-balanced P.hD. program.

I too am interested in funding opportunities at UVM. Anyone have any knowledge to share? Student4Life0- Have you decided on a POI/contacted anyone at UVM as of yet?

I don't know the specifics of funding at UVM, but I'm also applying there and I'm assuming it's a full tuition waiver and a stipend. I'm applying to work with Dr. Burt.
