I have acceptances to uva and Einstein. To me the full p/f of uva is game changing.

UVA
Pros -
- went to undergrad there and really like the school and charlottesville
- can remain a firefighter there
- full p/f curriculum
- has great in house ortho and neuro programs
- I’m from Virginia
- great research
- will be much closer to my s/o
- very student friendly curriculum
- I like nature
Cons-
- cost is going to be around 350k
- not leaving the state I loved my whole life and exploring what’s out there

Einstein -
Pro -
- Free
- great research
- new place for me

Cons -
- graded clinicals
- more intense culture
- Bronx doesn’t seem that nice (no offense)
- will likely be in the area for residency
- far from home and s/o
- lose my unique and very beneficial extracurricular

$350,000 at 8-9% fixed interest is not it. Einstein is 100% the pick here unless UVA can help alleviate some of that cost.

If you're in-state though, wouldn't the cost difference only be $215k or so? Or did Einstein give you COA money as well?

I'm at UVA, and I love the school - couldn't imagine getting a better education anywhere else.

But free tuition at Einstein, no strings attached? I would 100% take the money. Try to get money out of UVA. Some of my friends were able to get free tuition here with merit aid + financial need. If they give you a very significant package, I'd consider coming here. But this should be a no brainer for Einstein, unless you can't imagine living there or going to school there for a major reason.

How important is it that you’re near your support system? something to consider especially if you’re at a part in your life to maybe start family etc.

but free tuition is definitely the move. try negotiating with UVA. potentially try to have them match einstein??

The estimated COL seems very similar between the two schools (based on their COA estimates) so if you can get UVA to match the free tuition, I think the answers easy. Otherwise 350K vs 130K :/ gotta go cheaper, that will be a big impact on your quality of life as a resident and new attending.
