Hello all,

Glad I found this site! This is great info on here.

Anyway, I was wondering.... Does anyone know how hard it is to get into University of Washington Dental School if you are out of state? I am a UW alumni, however moved out of state last year and would like to go back to Seattle for 2006 admission. I read that they rarely accept out of state residents. What will I need to do to get into UW? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!!!

same as any school.. just try your hardest!

UW is pretty hard to get into if you're out of state (which means you shouldn't apply there unless you really wanna go there and have the stats or if you're a resident there...at least IMO) so you'd have to have pretty exceptional stats to get in. i'm just gonna shoot some numbers out of my butt - like a 3.5gpa or better...most likely better...and a 20+ on the DAT. these numbers are if you're out of state, but if you're considered a resident then the numbers are totally different. since you're a UW alumni, maybe they'll look at you in a different light...dunno for sure though...good luck!

unless u are from a WICHE state..
your chances for an acceptance would not be likely..

That's the only reason why I applied there. I'm a WICHE participant, otherwise I wouldn't have applied.
P.S. You may want to call them. I've been pretty lucky to get nice people on the phone every time I call a particular dental school. I hope it's the same way at UofW. They may give you great news by indicating that since you graduated from their school, then you'd be considered resident. I know for instance that if you graduated high school in Nevada, UNLV automatically considers you instate. If I was you, I would call the school and find out for sure. Good luck!!

Hey,

Thanks everyone for the reply. I love this forum...It's great.

Busdriver - are you at Ohio State? That's my second choice after UW. Any insight on their admissions?

Thanks,

Rob

hey generallee,
no i'm not at ohio state. i'm gonna start my first year at UCSF in a couple of weeks. i did apply to ohio state and i got an interview but i never went cuz i was already accepted to other schools by then. i'm out of state for ohio too so i don't think ohio state is a big "we want our residents only school" like UW. the only insight i can give you about ohio state's admissions is that they have a "secondary" that you have to fill out. it's not really a big secondary but you do need to fill it out before they grant you an interview (i think you need to shadow a dentist though...for at least 20 hours). i tell you this because they supposedly sent it to me through email but i never received it (stupid hotmail) so i finally called like 2 months later to see what happened and they told me what happened and resent it to another email address. after that i had to shadow a dentist and all that stuff so i guess i was still pretty lucky to get an interview invite after being kinda late. hope this helps! good luck getting into UW or Ohio State!

busdriver

what was your stats to get an OSU interview last year as an out-state applicant? - also, how late was your OSU interview last year?

hey Mo007,
my stats were 3.3gpa, 3.1 science, 25AA/23TS/21PAT

i honestly can't remember when i got my interview invite last year. i deleted the email and for some reason i can't find the letter that they sent me (kinda strange cuz i usually keep everything). i do remember that it was after December 1st because i told myself i didn't have to pay money to fly out there cuz i was already accepted at another school. that's the best i can answer your question. sorry it's pretty vague.

sweet DAT busdriver... I see why OSU invited you for an interview as an out-of-state student. You got to be 20+ DAT or 3.5+ GPA student to be considered for an interview.
