I interviewed at UW-Madison and can say that I think they have a great program there. They have a strong emphasis on outpatient psychiatry and residents have a large portion of their time devoted to continuity clinic begining PGY-2. The atmosphere at the program is very collegial and laid-back. The program has all of the benefits of being in a large academic institution (i.e. research, fellowships, etc.) but without limiting resident exposure to "ivory-tower psychiatry". Madison was a little further than I wanted to be from home, and so I did not rank the program very highly, but had I matched there, I would still have been very pleased.
As for board scores, etc. I had 230+ on Step 1, had some neuroscience research, and am graduating in the middle of my class from a small midwestern medical school...I got the distinct impression that I would have had no problem matching there had I ranked them high enough. Good luck.
