Hello

I am a first year Biology student here in Ontario. I have a 2.0 GPA in my first semester due to some circumstances and I fear I might have comprised my chances of getting into medical schools since its really tough to get in. Can any medical students or anyone who might have the same issue please give some advice.

hello there! I am currently a hopeful med student too, but I can share my expierince so far
I had a bit of a rough first year and finished with a 3.3GPA, so I figured med school was over for me, but I was able to turn things around and get 3.96 and 3.98 in my next two years, with highest grades in a bunch of courses. Of course schools like Ottawa are out, and Mac might be a long shot because they consider all years, but many schools do a2-yearGPA-so its definetly still possible! It's an uphill battle for sure though...
That being said, youère going to seriously need to work to turn things around that much. The crappy thing about bad first years is that there is essentially no room for error in the upper years-no B's in organic chemistry! I worked like crazy in second year, because the thing is, there is likely some gaps in your knowledge of the subjects where you got low grades, and you need to fix this!
So luckily you've caught on early-now before next semester look at why you didn't do as well as you wanted, was it poor time managment, a lack of understanding material, or poor test taking skills? Don't be afriad to get a tutor either-in fact having a weekly tutoring appointment can help keep you on track from the start of term.
Good luck!
