well hello dudes. just got my acceptance for UNLV via mail today. i definitely had my sight on Case, but now....with this....ackk....i'm not so sure anymore. god help me 🙁

It's a bless that you are accepted to UNLV as an out of stater.
Go UNLV if your only other choice is Case.

Well, I sent in my deposit yesterday. I guess that makes it official. For those of you who sent in your deposits, did they send you a confirmation or anything? thanks....

I finally got the "letter" yesterday. The letter was dated 2/3, but somehow I only received it on 2/14. I'm in California so it's not like I'm really far either. They wanted the $500 deposit postmarked by 2/18???? That means they only give me 4 days to think about it. Is that reasonable??

Let's be honest, you found out your were accepted on the 9th, based on previous posts. Just because you didn't receive the official letter until yesterday doesn't mean you don't count the other days you have been able to think about it. It's kind of funny, people complain because they don't get an accepatance and then people complain because they have to decide yes or no? You applied there you must have had sometime to think about why you would have applied there. Just be thankful you got an acceptance.

im on the same boat as you. i'm sending the $500 because i think it is worth extra months to think over where im gonna ultimately spend 4 years and $300,000 on.

Of course I'm grateful for the acceptance. However, until you get the official letter, how can you know for sure it's not some kind of mistake, and until I read it, I didn't even know the terms of the acceptance! Maybe $500 is nothing to you, but it is a lot to me, and I have another deposit that's due a week later. I don't want to throw money away, and I don't want to send deposit and hold up someone else's spot if I'm unsure. I just think schools should allow reasonable amount of time for you to respond and send in deposits. The other school has called me prior to sending letter and informed me of the date that they require me to send deposits. On the contrary, I heard nothing from UNLV and if I didn't by chance check the AADSAS status on 2/10 I wouldn't even know about this possible acceptance! I usually only get mails once week on Saturdays, since my mailing address is 1 hour away. Yesterday I made a special trip to retrieve my letters because I was expecting that letter. If I waited until this Saturday to get my letters like I usually do, I would've missed that 2/18 deadline!

Hey everyone! I have an interview March 16th at UNLV - Fingers crossed. :luck: Does anyone know how many spaces are left for 2006? Are there any spaces left? I truly appreciate any insight...

Before the last adcom meeting they had only filled 29 spots out of 70. Are you saying that someone told you they got another 29 confirmations in the one adcom meeting?

I'm just telling you what the guy in admissions told me when I asked him on the phone, he said that 12 spots total were still available.

yups. everyone now is interviewing to be on the alternative list. call up kimberly to comfirm if you'd like.

Thanks so much for your help. Yeah, you are right. Crystal from UNLV actually called me to confirm that I knew my interview was for the waitlist. 🙁 Can I ask her how many people are on the list, or is that inappropriate?

well let's see, there are 4 more rounds of interviews from this Thursday to April 13th, and there are roughly 20 people in each interview batch, so you are looking at about 80 people being on the waiting list. It is kind of sad thinking of the intervee's as sheep being gathered for slaughtering.

Out of the 80, probably only 8-10 people will get in. That's what happened to the class of 2008 and 2009, but then again UNLV was not that popular and here could be only 1 or 2 admissions from the waitinglist.

It's nothing more then a waiting game now, other then doing a good interview there is nothing you can do.

p.s. you can ask anyone in UNLV's admissions any question you want, but don't hold your breath becuase when it comes to answers they are very vague about it. Remember these words : Dentistry is a very discouraging career, you can not let things get you down. If you can not deal with this little stress, you need to start working on stress couping mechanism. The first few times you do the wax-up, or make a temp-crown or start to make impressions you will f$ck up. Everyone does, the thing to learn is not to get stressed out.

Thank you for your help! Actually, my interview went well and was very encouraging. I guess it just depends on your situation.

I'm going to disagree here, every time I have called the admissions office they have answered every single question I had and thoroughly.

Whoever answers the phone. Usually its a guy (I think his name is Steve, and he is extremely helpful), but lately its been a woman, not sure of her name, but I just called today and she was nice and helpful.

i don't know, i've talked to steve, kimberly and krystal. all seem to be a bunch of jackasses to me. if they helped you out, good for you. but i never managed to get a decent answer out of them. and mind you, i do talk all polite with them. maybe i call at a wrong time.

May I ask what kinds of questions they dont answer for you? Because I've asked very specific questions about number of applicants, number of admitted out of state, number of admitted in state and number of offers being made at any given time and I have received full and complete answers to all those questions.

those are the same very questions. direct and to the point. i am not buddy buddy with them. just call up, ask how they are doing, introduce myself and ask. today, i just asked my question and i got a straight up answer. maybe they dont like me. i don't know.
