I failed to match in the 2024-2025 TMDSAS cycle. I received 2 II from TMDSAS schools and none from the AMCAS schools I applied to. I would appreciate some feedback on where I can improve and some more sets of eyes read over my essays this cycle. I did work with a counselor last cycle but they were based in NC and somewhat unfamiliar with TMDSAS.
3.83 cGPA, 3.65 sGPA for TMDSAS (lower for AMCAS)
512 MCAT, just one attempt
Psychology major at Wake Forest University, minors in Bio and Chem
Born in Dallas, lived in San Antonio last 10 years
Studied abroad in Copenhagen - mentioned in unique circumstances essay
Was not complete till Mid-July for some schools that required Casper to be complete.
3 leadership positions throughout undergrad. 1 for a club and 2 with my sorority.
~150 hours research in undergrad in psychology department, no publication
~45 hours of shadowing
~90 hours of healthcare related volunteering
~60 hours of community service (free tutoring, events on campus, after-school program at an elementary, etc)
Over 1000 hours of paid employment throughout summers in college and 3 semesters of school in retail, child care, and tutoring
Working as a clinical research associate/specialist at UT Health SA since July 2024. Hadn't started before applying so it is not in major detail on my 2024-2025 application. ~2000 hours but no publications
1 LOR from my PI in undergrad, 1 from Microbio professor, and 1 from a psych professor. If I had to guess, 1 was generic and 2 were more specific and good. Will swap the psych professor for either the phd or MD I work with currently. Or both? Open to feedback on this. The phd is my boss and the MD I work with.
I think my interview skills are good. I am pretty personable, approachable, and friendly. I was able to talk about my current job a lot, highlight my hobbies, and talk about my personality traits.
Themes in my app:
- empathy
- inclusion
- mentoring and tutoring others
- family illness
- patient care
