Is this freaking correct?!?
I've never seen this many unmatched positions...

It's correct. 14 total unmatched spots (including 2 at King/Drew, 2 at Loma Linda, and 3 at UMichigan). Crazy.

The post match scramble is ending up being more like a post match melee... it just looks so suspicious. I think someone at these programs should get a match computer skills inservice.....14 positions!!!!!! Someone needs introduced to the "submit" button...

Agreed. It's almost as if they aren't ranking enough of the interviewees. That's the only way I can see this happening. In theory they should rank a good portion of those they interview, not just the top 10 or whatever. You gotta figure that matching someone you've interviewed is better than post-matching somebody who faxes you their CV.

For some of these programs, I just don't know how you don't match ANY of your positions!

ouch! michigan 0 for 3.

I think that Loma Linda lost internet service during a critical time.... 0 for 2. I am going to find out who the internet provider was for LL and Mich.... remind me not to subscribe....

I was told by a Michigan faculty (in the schools Oral Surgery dept) that for years now Michigan has been so confident in their interviews and in their own program that they have only ranked 4 or 5 students to fill their 3 spots. Never have they had to go above their 5th choice, so they don't rank more then that.....guess that was a mistake this year.

I don't get it--that proves that the program is stupid. It takes all of what, 30 seconds to rank additional applicants? It probably just goes to prove that programs (and perhaps many applicants) have little knowledge of how the match actually works.

I think arrogance has a big part to play in this too- at least at Michigan. I mean who wouldn't want to come to Michigan, right?
I don't see why you wouldn't at least rank all the ones you interview, it can't be that hard. Your last choice on a match list has got to be better then scrambling and trying to fill it later on.

Loma Linda only interviewed six people for two spots. SIX!! They ranked four. The four they ranked were quality applicants who apparently decided to go elsewhere (parkland, etc). That's, at least, one way you don't fill your spots.

I would have ranked Loma Linda #1 knowing that you're there, especially after your dermabrasion procedures😍 😍 ... How the hell are you my man? JE and I are livin it up in the dirty south and lovin it! How's our $30 boy doin:meanie: :meanie: ?

How am I doing?? Are you kidding? I just found out I get to take first year's call for another go round. Isn't that awesome? First the tool and now this ...Now who's getting full scope beotch?? BTW, I will need that 30$ - I'm starting another regimen of electroconvulsive therapy!

All in all, I think it will work out ok in the end. We're taking two four year guys two years from now. (no post-match this year) I hope all is well with you and Iowa. Probably the two best looking residents in the country besides myself. Sorry GatorMD.

Two questions:
1.Have any of the unmatched spots been filled yet?
2.What's the time frame on this post-match scramble?

Has anyone been called to interviews anywhere?

Yeah, that doesn't make any sense. Especially since applicants pay for the interview process, and most applicants don't turn down interviews unless dates conflict.

Is it true UCLA's not going to post match their spot either?

I thought vandy is a good program, Why do you think they didn't match?

I don't know, a guy from UNLV matched there and he was really happy...his first choice.

Probably because med school tuition is almost $40,000 per year (for 3 years).

Penn is similarly expensive, and I'm guessing Loma Linda ain't cheap either.

oh, forgot to say. another guy from UNLV matched at Penn and told me today that they already filled their spot...150 applicants for the one spot applied 😱

Did he match the four or six year. I would be all for the four year, but who wants to add an additional 150K in student debt. There are many other six year programs that are every bit as good and probably better, with reasonable tuition, and you dont have to go the full three years. I had a feeling they were going to have trouble matching those six year spots.

That would be pretty funny if he went to Parkland for an externship also. He must be my doppleganger twin.

Nice guy. Glad to see he matched. I remember when we were interviewing at Washington Hospital Center, he caught a red eye the night before and crashed out pretty hard in the waiting room, forehead to table style. When he woke up for his turn to interview, he had this big ass red mark (at least 3") right smack in the middle of his forehead and he couldn't get rid of it:laugh:

Good luck at UCLA

Hey chemical, do you know how the UCSF OS guys did? PM me if you know any results!

In reponse to wayoutwest concerning the UCSF guys --

Is it safe to assume that one UCSF guy is you? 😉 Strong work!

Congrats to all UCSF guys/gals! A strong class of applicants. You were all well deserving.

Speaking of UCSF.....anyone have a good feel for how much cancer they do these days? Like how many cases a month?

So, I interviewed at UCLA for their post match spot yesterday...
Freymiller told us there were 70 apps for the one spot and they interviewed 7 of us. One of the guys there said he was interviewing at Penn tomorrow, so I guess when I heard they had filled the spot...it must have just been a rumor.
Well, they called and offered the spot to me which I of course accepted. So I guess UCLA is off the market (unless they realize their terrible mistake 😉 ).
Post match scramble is pretty crazy and hectic. I didn't even apply this year in the cycle. I was gearing up to give it a go this summer and I saw the spot at the school I wanted anyway, so I jumped on it and it all worked out. I didn't have letters or anything prepared. I didn't consider post-match...I just assumed it would be the undesireable programs. But I was able to get everything in by Wednesday last week and got the interview. I am still in a state of shock 😱 over this whole thing.
