Hi SDN,

I had a quick question regarding the letter of evaluation section:

I received a LOR from the supervisor who worked under my professor for the ethnic studies department.(She is not a professor or a graduate student and she has a masters in creative writing and is the head researcher, she is hired to help out with the research.) More specifically, my college designated my professor an entire center called, "The Asian American Center" within the ethnic studies department. My professor hires people of various backgrounds, ie. GIS professionals, to help with his social experiments.

I do not know if she signed it, had the professor sign it, or signed it and had the professor cosign it.
I don't want to put her name in there if she put the professors name, or vice versa...

In the past, I remember she had the professor cosign LOR for other undergraduates. I am too embarrassed to ask because I passive aggressively hinted that I would like the professor to sign the letter she wrote. She might have wrote it and had the professor sign it off.(The professor is not great with English and is very relaxed about the supervisor writing for him)

1. Will it be ok to put "The Asian American Center" for the name of the Primary Author or Contact?

Thank you so much SDN!

It should be fine. Keep it the way that you have it. This will ensure that you don't have to talk with your letter writer again, and you will not have to worry about whether your letter writer signed it or the professor...

When Adcom recieves this, they will see who wrote it. I do not think any red flags will be raised.

The only thing I might be concerned with is that the adcoms might think that you do not know how to follow directions or you are too enamored with your research center that you listed that as the primary author.

I am in a similar situation as OP. However, I am going to email the letter writer and see if the letter was co-signed by professor.

If it is cosigned, how should I fill out the application for amcas?

Hello,

Several weeks ago, I requested and received a letter of recommendation for medical school from the Asian-American Center. Would it be possible to find out who signed my letter of recommendation for medical school? This information will be used in my application. No other information is required.

Thanks,
(your name)

Thank you everyone for your help! I mustered up the courage to ask and found out that the professor had not co-signed or signed it

May I just ask one more question related to this?

I was wondering what I should put for the Primary Contact/Author's Title:?

Should I put Head Researcher, or Supervisor? I am really not sure? The letter writer is not a professor or a graduate/phd student and has a masters in creative writing and is the head researcher, she is very close with the professor and is hired to help out with the research.

I feel you on this OP. I think I would just put research supervisor for the primary author's title. I am not entirely sure though.

Hopefully, somebody more experienced on this forum can assist you.
