Hello All!

I have a weird question, is there an upper limit on what UNTHSC would think is a serious application? I'm asking before I spend the time doing the secondary and they think I would not attend.

There are high-achieving students that attend at all schools and they don't reject students for being too good. TCOM is one of the best DO schools I believe, so I especially don't think you're going to run into that there. If you have stats to share, other people could likely provide more insight.

Thanks. I think they are a good school and I'd be happy to get in anywhere.

My stats are
cGPA 3.9
sGPA 3.94
Mcat 518
Army vet, thousands of patient hours, 2 deployments, 100+ hours volunteering, 1 semester research(no pubs), 20hours shadowing (but LOR from IM doc I worked with closely while in army for a year, so maybe more hours of "shadowing")

You have a chance at any medical school you apply to.

What I'm worried about is will they not look at my app and assume that I will just get in somewhere else? So, should I even do the secondary. I'm applying to all of the other Texas schools as well.

No I would apply. It's not even extra money because it's only one fee to apply to all the Texas schools besides Baylor I believe.

If you're a TX resident, you will get in to multiple MD schools with that app. Check the box on TMDSAS and then decide when it transmits if you want to fill out the secondary. If you submit before June, you will be among the first to get interviews at TX MD schools.

Thank you for your service and I wish you the best.

I'd apply, but quite frankly I'd be astonished if you didn't get into a top tier MD school. Those are fantastic stats, great work.

TCOM is the only school in Texas to schedule interviews through calls, so they wouldn't be wasting more than a minute of time by calling you first to confirm your interest. Absolutely expect an interview there and at the other TX MD schools. The top MCAT score for students in Class of 2018 was 40, and 34 for the year after that. The TMDSAS match makes it less plausible for schools to worry about "low yield" (because acceptances are distributed accordingly).

Thanks for your service!
