Get in the clinical exposure, service to others and shadowing, and have a good rationale for the jump from research to Medicine, and you should be competitive.Hi all. I am a lifelong wannabe doctor. I am American and just turned 33 last week. This year i got a Ph.D. in immunology from the #1 ranked international school for research (I don't mean to brag, I just want to get all the info out). My grades in grad school were all A's and B's and I think my two PI LORs are rock solid. I have another LOR regarding my volunteering to save campus cats (huge overpopulation problem in the middle-east).
I took the July 7 MCAT and got 511 (130.125.129.127), much lower than all my FLs. I knew I bombed CARS halfway through, but did my best. I got a 129 and 128 on FL4 (522) and FL3 (520) CARS, respectively (oh well). I also know that it is pathetic that my chem/phys grade is higher than my bio as someone with a doctorate. My GPA from Tulane was a 3.96 and I graduated with honors.
I have 5 publications (not primary author but will be on my 6th which I am writing now). I have some clinical experience but not in the last decade because I was not allowed to do work outside of grad school as a result of the stipend (contractual).
I know that the GPA/MCAT calculator puts me at 75% chance. I am worried, however, that my age and lack of many current extracurriculars will put me at a disadvantage.
What do you guys think? I don't really care which MD program I am accepted to but I prefer a NY school.
Thanks in advance and stay safe everyone.
