HI Ya'll,

I was wondering (for those who interviewed for UOP) what you did to prepare yourself for the process? Any advice is much appreciate. Thank you

Review the interview material here on SDN. Have a couple of questions "canned", but not all of 'em. Some, you really can't have an answer and others, an answer should be prepared.

As for the interview. Be yourself. Introduce yourself to other students. You may be going to Pacific next year. Make a couple of friends and get to know who you're interviewing with. Everyone will be stressed out, why not make it easier for yourself.

At UOP you get interviewed by one Faculty member and one second year student. For the faculty member the interview questions are looser. You talk more about your background; it's more of a conversation. The interview with the second year student was more systematic. They were obviously told to ask specific questions that are on a list in front of them. All these questions are scenario or behavior questions. Ex. Tell me a time where you...... . So I would look on the web for behavior based questions and have answers for those types of questions. Besides that I would know everything that is on you resume and application, be ready to talk about anything on there. Besides that just relax, everyone is really nice over there. I would eat lunch before you go to the interview. They do give you some cookies and drinks but no lunch, so be prepared. Good Luck

I second the previous post-- I remember our essay was something about the ethics of dispensing some sort of contraception if you were the pharmacist in a conservative commmunity that did not believe in it. (I can't remember if it was EC or condoms or oral conraceptive.) Pretty political essay compared to the other essays that i wrote, we were given an hour or so to write it and turn it in. I would read up on pharmacy journals to see what is the 'hot topic' these days (a few years ago it was the vioxx thing, for example) and get a basic understanding of the topics that concern pharmacists today, ie:

Medicare Part D
Herbal/Nutritional supplements
Complementary Medicine
Lipitor- are they going generic in the next few years or not? (There was an article in the business section recently about this)
Emergency contraception/ conscience clause
Language and cultural barriers in the pharmacy

there are a ton more i am missing, but you get the idea. I would go to the websites of APHA and AMCP and your local pharmacy professional organizations and see what is being discussed. it will definitely help arm you with some substantive stuff to talk about.
