I was wondering if anyone is going to AZCOM for an interview this or next week. I was just hoping to find someone who I can maybe explore the campus and the area with... or if anyone has any idea on what places I should definitely check out. Or how the AZCOM interview went....thanks!

I thought my interview at AZCOM was relaxed and very laid back. They seemed genuinely interested in me and the whole experience was very positive. If you have any questions about it, feel free to drop me a line--or anyone in the AZCOM 2007 forum thingy in the Osteopathic Forum--we would all be willing to lend a helping hand.

Good Luck!

I had one very aggressive interviewer at AZCOM. I don't bring this up to cast a poor light on the school, because I adore the school and will be thrilled to matriculate in the Fall. But I was taken a bit aback, since I hadn't heard of any bad interview experiences there before (or since). But for the sake of completeness.

Again, only aggressive interviewer out of the three. Granted, it was the last interview of the day on the last day of interviews that semester, so I'm sure everyone was tired, but it was rough. How to put it diplomatically...subtle hints were made that I wasn't representing my volunteer experience accurately. Not pleasant.

Fascinating exchange at the end:

Luke: "Does the school do any work with tropical medicine?"
Interviewer: "Tropical medicine? [disgusted sniff] We're in the DESERT."
Luke: "Oh."

It turns out that AZCOM does in fact have an elective specifically in tropical medicine (in addition to all sorts of other cool electives.)

But don't let me dampen your enthusiasm. I think that my experience was the exception proving the rule: AZCOM is a spectacular school. I was thrilled with everything about it.

If you're looking for stuff to do in town, there are all sorts of possibilities. If the Diamondbacks are in town, I'd definitely recommend hitting a game if you're at all interested in baseball. The stadium is amazing; there's a swimming pool! Camelback Mountain in Scottsdale is a fun few hours' climb (1500 feet in the middle of town), and the school gives you a list of attractions nearby also.

Good luck with the interview; hope to see you in the Fall!
