Somewhat self-explanatory, so pardon the obvious question. About half of my schools have portals which are receptive to update letters, and the other half seem to lack the option. Is this indicative of the school's position on update letters? Or is it worth emailing the admissions office directly for all (~12) schools to determine how an update letter might be submitted, if they are accepted?

Thanks in advance.

Not necessarily. As @gonnif said, read websites carefully (or call and ask), but the options remain of email or even snail-mail updates, when a portal option isn't available.
