When you update your AACOMAS with new things, such as new activities and publications, does your application to the schools you've applied to automatically go to the back of the pile? Say for instance, I updated my AACOMAS with new things, and the updated application gets sent to schools on Wednesday, does my updated application stay in line for review at the school, or does it get bumped to the back of the line as though I submitted the application THAT day??

Hard to tell. The only definitive information I've seen about this was someone who continued to update his/her application, and when they called PCOM-GA to ask for an application status update, he/she was told that their app had been pushed to the back of the queue each time it had been updated and re-sent.

Not sure if every school does this, but at the very least, it appears some do.

Yep, that was me. It had been nearly two months since I submitted my secondary and was wondering why people submitting Primaries and Secondaries after me were getting II's. I consider myself a rather competitive applicant and after I had received some II's in September and no word from PCOM-GA, I decided to call admissions. They were very friendly and helpful on the phone. The one rep explained to me that each time they got a "revised" copy, it would "technically" go to the back of the queue. I can completely understand this as I have been routinely updating my Primary since the beginning of July (verified 26 JUN). However, less than 48 hours after I called, I ended up with an II. Now I think I started an epidemic with people calling the admissions office!

BLUF: If you are concerned, I would recommend politely calling and/or emailing the schools you are interested in and just ask if revisions delays the review.
Yeah I saw your post and emailed PCOM a and they told me that my app would stay in the same spot, but I'm not sure based on your situation. I think I'll call.

I have no idea how my school handles this (it's the arena of my wily old Admissions dean) but I can't imagine why a school would bump your app downwards with each revision, unless they have a specific rule against updates.

Some MD schools do indeed have this policy and it's a way of weeding out people who can't follow simple directions, or think that they're so entitled that the rules don't apply to them. I am NOT saying that OP is guilty of this!!

This was at PCOM-GA and I called the number at the GA campus. Unfortunately, I didn't get anything in an email to "confirm" any of this. But like I said before, I found it a bit ironic that they offered me an II after I called. I had no clue that some schools might put your app at the bottom with each revision. It really didn't occur to me at any point in time. But in all honesty, it would make sense. I don't know how each school processes each primary application, let alone what they do once revisions come around. Maybe @Goro would have some insight if he/she is allowed to discuss particulars. In any case, wanted to share my experience in case there were others in my situation (2-3 months without any status updates).

I'm not familiar with osteopathic schools, but for MD schools I think most people just send an update letter instead of updating their primary. Not sure if it's the same for DO?

I'm not quite sure how to update my application. It has been verified today so won't be sent to schools until tuesday. Am I allowed to just log in to aacomas and add a shadowing experience? And the schools will be sent my app with that update already? I'd be thankful if anyone could help!

As long as you click the Pay and Submit button, my understanding is that the updated app will be re-sent on Tuesday to all of the schools you already applied.

I sure hope so, anyway. I was rereading my PS and noticed a couple of things I didn't like. Fixed them and resubmitted. I'm only complete at a few schools, and all less than a week, so hopefully none of them have looked at my file yet...

Thanks. So each time I edit something, I should click "pay and submit"? My app has just been verified so schools haven't received it yet

Okay guys, I'm really confused. I got verified on Thursday and got a message that my app with updates added before Tuesday will be released on Tuesday. I'm just not sure how to go about making an update, I guess I'm scared that I'll click something and my app will be sent for re-verification or something like that! I just want to add shadowing. So I go to ECs tab, add shadowing, save changes, and..? Do I need to click Pay and Submit again (even though I paid already)? Anyone can help?

Yes, click Pay and Submit. You won't have to pay again. After you've already paid (and assuming you haven't added any more schools), it's essentially just the Submit button. If you don't click it, I don't think you are submitting your updated app.

No, you only have to save the changes. The changes should be sent the next Tuesday. Your PDF next to the initial school release date will say revised and list the sections you changed. I added some things after sending my primary initially, so this is from experience.

But do those changes push your application to the back of the pile at schools that you were previously complete at?

To quote "El Chavo del Ocho", the answer to your question is "maybe yes, maybe not, but most likely, who knows". Your best bet it to call each school and ask them in person.

I messaged AACOMAS and asked how to update stuff and they said to just add/edit anything you want and click "save". No need to re-submit. However, I was verified on Thursday and my app will be released tomorrow so maybe it's different if someone has their application released to schools already
