I filed my ERAS several weeks ago after waiting to find out my grade for internal medicine - I emailed the IM office and they replied telling me I had a letter of commendation. I incorporated this into my ERAS. Then, the other day I happened to be looking at my academic record online and saw that they had revised the grade to honors for some reason. Obviously this is a good kind of problem to have, but now should I contact programs and say "oh by the way..."? Or maybe just ones that haven't sent me an interview offer? Should I just assume that they'll all figure it out once they get my MSPE on Nov. 1st and the correct grade is listed? Should I just wait and mention it during my interviews? Thanks in advance for advice.

😕

What do you mean that you incorporated your IM grade in your ERAS? Do you mean that you wrote about it in your personal statement? If you did, I wouldn't worry about it as it will show up on your official transcript and your MSPE. I'd only worry about it if you wrote that you got a better grade then you had, not vice versa.

I incorporated it into my ERAS in the honors and awards section, as recommended by the ERAS gurus at my school. Didn't put it on my PS. Since my transcript only says things like progress and passed, there is no way for schools to see that I got letters of commendation and honors in some of my rotations (until my MSPE comes out, which will have all of that info plus evaluations for all my rotations). They tell us to make sure we put it on our ERAS so that programs will have that info with which to make decisions about interviewing.

Did other people put honors in classes in the honors/awards section? I haven't heard of doing that, and it didn't even occur to me. Now I wonder whether anyone will assume that I got no honors since I didn't list them there?

I didn't list honors in classes or rotations. I also haven't heard of that being done.

Nor have I. Fortunately for me, it wasn't much of an issue...

Heh, I had commendations for just about all my rotations (ie good job on the wards, too bad you didn't honor the shelf), but didn't think to put it in the awards section.

Lol, I don't even think it's in the transcript. Maybe I should change MY awards section...

I dunno.... Everybody has those Honors in classes and rotations. I think if I were on the committee I'd see inclusion of those as REALLY reaching....

At my institution, only the top 10-15% in each rotation is eligible for honors and next 15 or so % are eligible for letter of commendation. So I wouldn't say everybody has them. Anyway when the school sends out the MSPE they include a bar graph showing the percentage of the class getting each grade for a given rotation. They have to do this because my institution doesn't rank.
