My interview is in an hour. I've seen so much posted about Drexel's program and hardly anything about UPenn. Has anyone interviewed or been accepted? I guess today is the deadline. I have an acceptance at Drexel IMS, but am interested in UPenn too.

What are the UPenn interview questions? I pretty much got the same Drexel questions as everyone else....
Why do you want to be a doctor?
What would your friends say about you?
What would your profs say about you?
What's one of your weaknesses?
What would you get out of this program?

Does anyone else start their post-bac program during the glide year? I've got my AMCAS application submitted and plan to attend UPenn the year leading up to med school because I think it might help. On the other hand I'm wondering if I shouldn't kick back a little, rather than take intense courses the year leading up to med school. Thoughts?

Thanks!! 🙂

I had a nice chat with Dr. Purpura about the UPenn post-bac program. This interview was different than Drexel's because it sounded as though he actually knew a lot about me and had read my application essays. So the questions were more about me and how I developed into the person I am and where I see myself going.

Has anyone else had a UPenn interview? It's so quiet out there!!!

did you choose upenn over drexel? if you don't mind me asking, what other programs did you apply to? i'm still trying to decide between BU MAMS, drexel IMS or doing it on my own at UT.

Not trying to hijack here...okay maybe I am... anyway, I noticed that UPENN requires either GRE or SAT scores. As far as my SAT scores, I don't remember what they were, but they weren't all that great. I'm gonna do the GRE thing and study, study, study. Anyone else take the GRE for entrance into UPENN? Did this help?

I'm not sure whether you're applying to the Pre-Health or Special Science program (the latter seems to be what this thread is about, though I think it would be nice if people were clearer about this distinction), but I submitted GREs rather than SATs for my Pre-Health application and was accepted. They were impressed with my GRE scores, so I believe they helped.

Thanks! Pre-Health is what I'm applying for. I figured that taking the GRE and doing well would carry a bit more weight than some test you took when you were 17... What was your score on the GRE if you don't mind my asking?

Having been in the Penn program for a year and did the whole interview process then. I think they use your standarized test score to get a sense of how you'd do when you take the GRE/MCAT/DAT for real. I certainly wouldn't go out of your way to study for and take a test just for the application. But, that's just my perspective.

If I recall my interview correctly was more of a check to make sure I really wanted a career in vet med, that I was serious about it, and that I didn't have seven heads. I suppose it matters on how you did undergrad as well.

I applied to Drexel IMS and UPenn Special-Science. I've been accepted to Drexel and am waiting to hear back from UPenn. I'm still in California, so everything will happen very quickly in order for me to get to the East Coast and settle in for a year of hard work! 😱

I took the GRE in 1999, before it changed to the current format. I believe there's a writing sample now; there was none then. It consisted of three 800-point sections: verbal, quantitative, and analytical. I got a 740V, 730Q, 710A.

Hey everybody! My interview is with Dr. Purpura on 7/29 (this Friday!). Judging from what Audra wrote, this may not be as scary as I had anticipated.

I'm posting because I'd like to know who did a phone interview. This will be my first one, and I'm trying to decide if I should apologize for not coming to the campus. I know that there's nothing wrong with doing a phone interview, but I just feel a little weird about it.

Any tips, thoughts, or advice?
