Hi everyone,

I got a letter from Upenn today that they put me on the waiting list🙁...
I don't know what does that mean and how many ppl on the list. Does anybody else get the same letter? Does that mean I have to wait till the end of the whole process to see if anyone gives up the seat?
any comments are appreciated!

You can call them to find out where you are on the waiting list. I guess top 5s still have a lot of chances.

i called them they said that all the seats are not filled yet. then how can there be a waiting list

That is because not all the seats are taken until those who were accepted make all the payments for the 18,000 dollars the first payment is due on december and they don't extend the dates for the payments.

I have a different point of view. I am under the impression that they leave some seats for the condidates who were interviewed latere than you. If you are more competitive than them, they will give the seat to you later, otherwise, you need to wait to see if anyone decline the offer.

I agree with mliu. Any one who is wait listed so early in the game means that U are a strong candidate but the school still wants to wait and see if some one else is a more competitive. It was mentioned at one of the interviews I attended that they accepted students from the waitlist during last admission cycle, as the candidates were not as competitive towards the end of interviewing process. As mliu mentioned you will be given an opportunity should some one deny their offer. So you still have a chance. But I know that it is very stressful not knowing a definitive answer. I would suggest that if u get accepted at another school go ahead otherwise you still have a chance.👍

Hi Lisa lisa: If u please share information with me, i am on wait list too. Does ur letter say they will consider u for the next admission cycle too?
do u know how many are on the wait list?
did u have interview with them? they didn't call me for interview?

Hi, they did not say they would consider you for the next admisson cycle. I don't know how many people on the list, but considering nobody gets rejection letter after being interviewed, I have to say "alternative status" is just like rejection. Because you are the first one to kick out and those who do not get "alternative status" are still pending and they still have chance to be considered....

I was interviewed on Oct 9. Is there a diff b/n alternate status and wait list? If so, then I am on alternate status. I did not call the school to find out what place I am on the wait list.
My Stats:
Part 1: 91
Toefl: 113
GPA 2.84
Exp: US 2 yrs as assistant none in India
