UPitt Interview 11/29

Hey everyone!

I interviewed at UPitt on 11/29. How long do you think they'll take to get back to me? Can anyone who has ever interviewed post-Dec 1st give their feedback as well?

Er.... Not exactly the response you're looking for but I got my Pitt interview on the 13th. Do you have any advice you could share with me?

Yeah sure! I'm not sure how useful it'll be since I'm not accepted or anything yet...
Expect a really long but informative day. You'll have one one-to-one interview with a faculty member. I kinda wish I had two like the other schools I interviewed at. Also, expect tons of interviewees. I think UPitt only organized 4 interview dates and they just called in all the people they were interested in on those days. Your date is the last group.
Importantly, It's really laid-back, so you can be yourself. There's a really good Q&A session with current students, so come with questions to ask them!

How long is this "really long but informative day?" My flight back departs at 5:30 😕

Topic got a little off from OP's questions... lol

but my flight was @ 545PM, if yours is 530PM, I'm assuming you're riding Jetblue.

Anyway, if you take the 28X bus right after the interview session is over which is at 3PM, you will still get to the airport on time. If you feel that you're short on time, then you may take a cab but that's like ~$50 where as 28X is $3.25.

I was there on 11/29 also. Good luck to you! You cannot trust all the info that people put on predents.com but I see some people interviewed on early December and got accepted around mid December. So I don't think they wait to see how many people make a deposit between 12/1 ~ 1/1 and give out the next round of acceptances sort of thing. I hope to hear them by mid December.

Also, I think you're right about PITT having organized ~5 interviews with massive people with one given day. It seems like every other Tuesday since September 20th were the interview dates, 9/20, 10/11, 10/25, 11/15, 11/29 and 12/13. As you have seen on 29th, I'm sure other interviews also had like ~50 people getting interviewed. That sounds about right because Dr. Etzel told us that PITT interviews ~300 people a year, that those 6 interviews days will make up for around 300 people. For your interest, I remember seeing doc toothache's excel file on acceptance rate that PITT interviewed 330 people and accepted 181 people or something like that.

You will not hear back until after the first week of January. I called and asked. You can do the same.

Hmm. I wonder why they informed at least one person (maybe more?) from that interview but not everyone.

Demps, thanks for the input! Good luck to you as well! You know, I was thinking along the same lines as you. My guess was about 2.5-3 weeks time. Hopefully we hear back from them before January.

There was nothing Dr. Etzel mentioned of other than "none of you will probably get accepted on December 1st" sort of answer. He didn't mention anything on you will hear from us after January.

Yeah waiting is hard 🙁 but I was referring to the one person on predents that interviewed that day and was accepted.

Looks like he/she may have been an outstanding/phenomenal candidate so maybe AdComs took him/her right away lol... but anyway yeah waiting is gonna suck
