I just switched from Biochemistry to General Biology and decided to double major with Japanese studies in my school because I didn't want to take couple classes like pharmacology in Biochemistry that kills GPA.

I'm wondering what kind of upper division courses I should take for applying to Dental School...

I finished basic sciences lower division... so far finished biochemistry, genetics, human nutrition, and anatomy... planning to take physiology and either bacteriology or cell biology

Is it necessary to take classes such as Cell Biology, Mole Biology, Bacteriology, Virology and such...I know they are not required. Mole biology in my school is pretty tough to get an A so I donno if it's worth to take it because I don't need to take it to graduate.

Somebody helpppppppp~~~!

From all the reading that I have done, the more science upper division courses you take and do well on is great. I think most dental schools have the same requirements but be sure to check out all the D-school's website (ones you apply to). You will find additional courses they may require on their site as well as their recommended courses. I believe recommended means that you are better of taking them then not. Besides they do need to assess how well they perceive you will do in D school by taking these upper division courses.

-Good Luck

Thank you so much for such a quick reply,

I'm wondering lot of dental school does not list molecular biology or bacteriology for their recommended...

I have to put lot more effort to get an A in those classes.. Even if I get an A in those class, there will be hundreds of ppl applying having the same grade in similar class...

I wonder how many people who goes to dental school took mole biology, cell biology, or pharmacology in their undergraduate..

I donno whats better... to take those hard classes or to put the effort into raising my DAT score...

There are business major ppl getting accepted to dental school too.. probably without taking those hard classes to risk lowering their science GPA..

Sorry this sounds very personal...

Any suggested upper division classes that I should take before entering dental school to prepare myself later on? so I won't suffer in Dental school studying like how I suffered in General Chemistry my 1st year in college due to not taking AP chem in highschool.

best advice I can give you is to NOT compare yourself to other people. There will always be someone with better grades, more courses, connections, whatever. Focus on yourself and what you can do to stand out from the others. Sure there are tons of kids who apply to dental school as bio. I'm sure you aren't the first to major in japanese. Why not switch to english as a major and then take the prereqs and science courses? They you apply as a non science major with awesome grades in science courses. Probably would make the RC much easier.

Take courses like anatomy, physiology, and histology. Those courses tend to have a lot of memorization which is what dental school courses from what I hear tend to require.
