I withdrew in good standing from my residency (have supporting documentation) to pursue and complete my training at a different program. I have my MD & general surgery internship certificate with 5+ months of anesthesia and 30+ months of OMFS training.

Trying to find a program that would accept a resident for the last 1-2 years of training, so any PGY-3 (3/4 or 5/6) or higher spot would be of interest.

Please DM with any possible leads or contacts. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you

I think Indiana University had a resident leave and one of the years is short a resident.

Minnesota posted a thread a few months ago looking for a new resident because they opened up a new pgy3 spot

I reached out them and still waiting to hear, appreciate the heads up, if you hear of anything else please let me know

I believe UPenn is down a resident at the senior level. They went to Anesthesia after getting MD
This is the second time I’ve heard of something like this happening. Someone else started general surgery residency after getting his MD

Gen surg was the toughest rotation i had to do. Surprised someone wanted to do that when they could have become omfs.

If anyone hears of anything please let me know. Thanks to all who have helped out so far.

At this point I would consider starting at PGY-1 at a 4 year program if they would consider a non-traditional, outside of PASS applicant

Doesn't some program have an open spot because a resident got booted for drugs?

You may be thinking of NOLA, they were a 6th year with a couple months left.

Sorry you're in this predicament. A long time ago, there was a program that lost a resident from the 6 year track early on. They later took a resident into a 4 year track to make up for the loss of the original 6 year resident. I don't think the 4 year track otherwise existed at this 6 year program. Just throwing this out there in case it's a possibility somewhere for you.

I have heard Cincinnati is down a PGY-1 spot, maybe reach out to them. They are a 4 year program.
