Hi All
I am currently in a tough situation-I have a terrible first score looming over my application (otherwise a pretty decent app. with strong LORs, good ECs, research experience, good undergraduate university). I'm trying to decide when to submit my AMCAS-if I wait until I get my better score (fingers crossed) that won't be until Sept (August 4 test day). I am worried if I submit my AMCAS now with the crappy score medical schools will 1) put me on the very bottom of pile or 2) not even send me a seconday!) I know September is WAY lay to submit a primary, I don't want to rule out my chances at interviews by waiting this long but I also want the med schools to focus on my new score.

What should I do?! Send in the AMCAS now with crappy score (will they see it right away if I put that I am taking the test in August?)

Help!
Thanks so much!

They'll be able to see that you plan on taking the exam again in the future, so I would just send now if everything is done. I mean, even if you send later, schools will still be able to see your first score.

They will see your first score and your plan on a retake, and they will put off reviewing your application until they receive your second score. However, submitting early will help you get verified early, so that they can start reviewing your app when your new score is sent in. Just put one school on your app now and add more when you get your score back.

You should probably proofread your application and submit whenever you feel ready.

how crappy is your score? is it less than 25? if its super low I would wait, but if its just slightly low maybe you could get away with registering to retake it, do you think you'll be able to improve?

hard for us to give you answer without knowing the exact score. but even if it's truly awful the med schools will see you are retaking.

if I put only one school on my app doesn't that mean i won't be able to get a secondary from the others until September when I submit again? Does everyone get a secondary regardless of score for most schools? I just don't want to be out of the running for schools before I have a chance to prove I am capable of a (much) higher MCAT!

I could be wrong, but I'm fairly certain that schools will not reject, let alone even remotely glance at your application until they see your new score, whenever that comes out. and some schools screen yes but that might not even happen until they get the new score

I would say it kind of does depend on how crappy this first score is...not sure why you're being so evasive about the score (its not like anyone knows who you are). This is school specific but I would at the very least get your primary verified before this next score comes in so you're ready to roll right away.

Yes, you will not get secondaries from others if you only put one school on your app right now because they other schools won't even know you're interested in them. Secondaries are very school specific, some screen and others send one to everyone.
