I have a chance to attend either. From what I know it will be cheaper for me to go to Albany, but I heard some crazy things about students hating the school(I don't care much about the dropouts but those you actually graduated from the school).

But URI seems like a really nice place, but it would be 40k for me.

Opinions?

It really depends on you. Most 6 year schools get lousy reviews from students who find it easier to blame a school for their poor academic performance. There is nothing easy about a 6 year program, and quite honestly, I don't think alot of people can easily transition from high school to a 6 year program. However, if you look at each traditional application cycle, there is only 1 seat to every 10 applicant if you go through the traditional route (thats a 90 percent failure rate, although a bit misleading because students apply to multiple schools). If you look at it from that perspective, all 6 year schools suddenly look more enticing. Believe it or not students who don't get in to the school of their choice sometimes accuse the pharmacy school of shady business practices...go figure (point is, there will always be someone complaining).

You should go with your gut feeling on whether or not which 6 year school is good for you, and look at the naplex pass rates and dropout rates. I wouldn't necessarily go on what other people say...for every complainer, there is someone who thinks that their school is the best school on the planet.

Albany is a little harder to get into as a result that the seats are extremely limited. URI might be a bit easier, but is more expensive.

I know someone who is in the her third year of pharmD at URI. She was on a sport scholarship for the first two years and was on their swim team. She had to discontinue swimming in her third year because the pharmacy workload increased tremendously and she couldn't commit to time needed for swimming practice and travel competitions.
She did lose her scholarship but will continue (starting her 4th year) in the fall. She loves the school and has been working with Rite Aid since her first year of prepharm (in collaboration with URI). She is guaranteed a job with them after graduation, and will receive tenure for the years she worked for them during her education.
If you're looking for the whole college experience, I'd seriously consider URI. There are many extracurriculars outside of the pharmacy world for you to enjoy (although any varsity sports may not be advisable.)
Albany may be cheaper, but many of their students seem to be unhappy.
URI also does not accept transfers, as opposed to Albany which does.
I guess Albany is always having open seats, where very few URI pharm students leave.

Hey there... I did a internship @ URI last summer in the COP...the faculty there is really passionate about their teaching and their research. The students were gone for summer so I didnt get to meet them, but the ones that stuck around for research and stuff were mad cool. I would go there without any hesitation, the campus area is surrounded by cool people, nice bars, even though its a small town. You can't go wrong with URI. I'll say that. Good luck 🙂

Yeah Albany will be cheaper, but I don't think by much, right? Albany has the misleading practice of not listing its board rate properly. It says like 1 grand, but that's the least you are required to purchase (on which you won't survive).

I don't go to Albany, but I have visited it and I go to a small college (though slightly larger than Albany), and I don't like the lack of social life. I really wish I went to a bigger school, to get the "whole college experience" as someone else said. Also, Albany is on probation right now.

So, if it's not much more expensive (maybe less than 30-40k difference throughout all 6 years), I'd suggest going to URI.

And URI would give you zero financial aid?

Well no, because I'm counted as an international student. And from what I know they could have given me some scholarship had I applied with early action.

Anyways thanks people for your help!

Also I'm wondering is there any chance of getting a scholarship on second year?
