When I was in highschool I received an award for this artwork:

wolf_full.jpg

I would like to give the URL to this image in my application but it raises a couple questions.

1) Would that be frowned upon?
2) It gives them access to my very out-dated and horrible website that I designed when I was trying to get a job as a Web Applications developer/Web designer. Now smart Adcoms will find the site from the link, could this crappy site work against me? So if I wanted to include the photo I better be prepared to do a redesign of my site in my copious spare time. 🙄

What do you all think?

It sounds like it wouldn't hurt at all, because if they open it they can get a sense of what you did (very nice drawing btw!). My only concern would be that it's from high school, and if anything would be "frowned upon" usually activities/events from HS would be it...unless it's a very prestigious award? I don't know, get others' opinions on this as well, but that's just what struck me. Good luck to you!

Ooooohhhhh! I should have put this in.

I got 2nd place in the Imagine Yellowstone National art competition. I don't know if you would call it prestigious, but it certainly not a blue ribbon in the local 4H fair kinda competition. 😉

I see a couple of problems with this:

1. Even if you provide the link, there's like a <0.2% chance some adcom members will actually make the effort, with hundreds of other applications waiting impatiently before them, to go online to see some artwork you did in

2. High school! That's a big red flag. From everything I've heard (SDN and otherwise, they only want to see college (+) work/activities or things that have continued on at least into your college years).

If you have continued your artwork, however, I think it would be perfectly acceptable and interesting to submit a supplementary portfolio with copies of your artwork to your schools. In that case, you can definitely include the wolf because that is one good painting!!!! 👍

if you must include this, couldn't you just put the pic on a picture hosting site, so you won't have to redesign your webpage?

Ohhh! You make an excellent point! There are a billion of them out there now.

And BTW I really like your user icon. 👍

I didn't really finish much artwork in college, even though I have a flipping degree in it. I was kinda thinking that this helped establish why I did get a degree in Art instead of Bio like I originally intended.
