Hey Hey, How is everyone doing?

OK, I was wondering how many people with URM status we have here in SDN. I was wondering what school you guys go to and what your major is. Also, if you are in med school already would you mind sharing where at and again, what undergrad you went to and what major you had. I go to CSU Fresno here in California. I am double majoring in Psychology and Chicano Latino Studies. So anyone?

Eduardo 😀

Hey Eduardo,

I went to SJSU, majored in political science and I'm going to the University of Pittsburgh.

Hey Tonem, thanks for replying. Are you Mexican American or what are you? Also, would you imnd sharing your stats? if not, its all good!

Eduardo 🙂

Edu I am going to APSU (not a big name school) and I am a Mexican-American. I sent you a PM with gpa, etc. I will be applying to many many schools from upper to lower tier because you never know. I am fluent in *Castellano* and hope to one day become a physician in an area with a large Spanish speaking population.

Hey Eduardo:
I am an URM, went to UCLA as an undergraduate and majored in Bio. Fortunately, I will also be going to UCLA as a medical student.

hey reesie...you'll love Pitt!!!

Here's my story. I went to Morehouse College for undergrad where I majored in Biology. I got my Ph.D.in Immunology from upstate medical center in Syracuse. Postdoc'd at Harvard, and Texas A&M. I'll be going back to Upstate for my MD in the fall.

Hey! 🙂

Here's the scoop on me... will graduate from mit (undergrad) in a couple of weeks with a degree in chemical engineering... will attend UVM for med school.

Good luck to all of you! 🙂

To all the URM can you PM with more specific details about your life (he he) like gpa, mcat, ec's, where to apply, etc. I would just like to get a better picture of what is out there as far as applicant pool and where to apply. Gracias a todos!

Hiya. I majored in Human Development & Family Studies at Cornell then did the Harvard post-bac program. I'll be heading to Mount Sinai this year.

Hi Eduardo,

I graduated from Harvard with a degree in Classics, went to UT-Austin for grad school in the same field, and did my pre-med courses at Tufts. I will be going to Baylor starting August 1st and I cannot wait!

Y soy puertorrique?a.

31 year old African American male, graduated with a BA from Penn in history. Completed post bac at Temple in 2001, going to the same for medical school.

Biology, Arizona State. Mexicana and Native. Mayo Med in the fall. I had many schools to choose from. It was a hard decision. I did lots of genetics research throughout undergrad (lots of conferences and poster and oral presentations about my research), did eclectic volunteering (health fairs here and there, did internships in the ER and OR at local hospitals, etc.), and was heavily involved in leadership in a couple of prehealth/premed organizations. I had a decent GPA (3.8), but my MCAT was just okay (didn't even break 30). I applied to all of my dream schools, and got into just about all of them. Aim high, and it will happen. Good luck to all URMs and non-URM minorities out there!
