Hi all,

I will soon be applying to US medical schools as a Canadian (non-US perm resident). I have found that MD Management offers a 200K loan. However, I'm not sure if this applies to Canadians who want to go to US med schools. Anyone know? And for those who already have a loan from MD Management, how do you like it? Are there many hidden fees?

Apparently the MD Management loan is via the National Bank of Canada (and not the Bank of Canada). This loan is $200k and like most other loans can be topped up a certain amount per year (eg $15k) if needed and approved. Also like most others are at prime and you don't have to pay anything except interest until or after graduation.

The only catch with this specific MDM loan is that you have to be a CMA member which costs a minimal amount per year ($20? as a student). I think you can be one as long as you are a medical student somewhere - just call them for that info.

As their catch-phrase goes - "by physicians for physicians". MDM gets no commission for their dealings as it is through physicians annual fees where they get their flat payment from - theoretically impartial advice on investments and it has been great so far. Of note, most members of your family (extended - uncles, grandparents, inlaws, etc.) are covered under you as "members" for MDM investment purposes via your CMA membership - so free investment advice for them too. I've known positive>>>negative stories when dealing with them in regard to financial advice (ie investments). Loan-wise, most LOC programs are really the same for professionals.
