Hey guys so I'm in community college right now working on pre reqs for vet school but I was just wondering If i can apply to International vet med school without BA or BS. I have 1 year of small animal experience and I i will be starting to work with large animal in summer. Im also taking the GRE test sometime next year when Im fully ready for it. So if you guys can help me out with if i can get into UK vet med school without a undergraduate degree and also how can i afford to pay for everything if i do decide to go to international school.

thanks guys.

You can definitely be accepted to RVC without an bachelor's degree but it will be into the 5-yr program. I don't know about the other UK schools. Entry to the 4yr program, however, requires a bachelor's.
I believe you can get US gov't loans the same way you would if you went to a US school.

Thanks laitmanvet and Bigkittinteef.
@ LAITMANVET How do you like it at RVC?
@ BIGKITTINTEEF where did you go to vet school?

I think you can go to most UK vet schools without a BA or BS, but don't take my words with a grain of salt. I got into the GEP class which you have to have a BS/BA and that is a four year program. The five year I truly believe you just need to get the pre-reqs, animal experience (vet exp or husbandry), and just do a GRE even though the GRE is not really counted too much at all with vet schools in UK, they just need to see you did it as a way to allocate with the AVMA. I am at the Royal Dick in Edinburgh and I absolutely love it here. I am in the middle of the third year (technically it is my second year), but I did the first two years in one as part of the GEP program. Not to worry, you will be able to get US loans for RVC, Glasgow, and The Dick Vet. I guess I will leave it at that, but there are quite a few vet students who go to the three AVMA UK schools that can help answer any burning questions you may have about each school, I can try to answer what I can mainly with the Edinburgh. Good luck to you in the future.

Your best resources for this are the schools themselves. I know it can be done, but they still have requirements for it. As for paying for it, most people I know (practically everyone here) gets Federal Direct Loans. The schools usually give you a cost of attendance, which will include tuition and living expenses (and usually flights as well), and you take out what you expect to spend for the year.

I would really take a moment, though, to decide if you really want to do vet med before you try going the route you are thinking of taking. Not to discourage you, but there are the few people who start going down the vet med path in undergrad and completely change it before graduating. I wouldn't want you to be 2 years into the BVetMed degree in the UK if you ever decide that it's not for you.

If it's really for you, good luck!! :luck:
