USC housing

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was looking at some places downtown, but it's expensive...

I'm also interested in this. Apparently there is a free shuttle from Union Station in downtown LA to USC that leaves regularly if you want to live further away and take public transport... However, I think it stops running well before midnight, which may not be convenient on those late nights at school.

i was looking at downtown too yes it is expensive. i was maybe even thinking santa monica cause it runs along side the 10. i google mapped its like 15 minutes without traffic, a little bit far huh? but in a nice area atleast

Yea I'm also planning on checking it out soon.
When you guys say its expensive, how expensive are we talking about?
I'm thinking of getting place by myself at least for the first year and want to stay close to school.
Any current USC student with suggestions? Also how's parking for students on/near campus?

Btw make sure to join fb group if you havent done it yet!

eh you can get a nice/decent studio in downtown for 900-1500/month. 1 bedroom are usually 1200-1700 depending of course which complex. It all depends if you want to live ghetto or in luxury. A lot of people live in the "Orsini, Medici, Visconti" complexes that are owned by the same parent company. Google them but they are on the pricey side. A lot of people also live mid-wilshire, silver lake, koreatown, and culver city. A lot of people also commute. Some daring souls live near the campus or walking distance away which is a little sketchy to say the least. There are always campus cruisers that will literally drive you to your front door but I rarely see people call them up. Most calls are for undergrad sorority girls that need a ride because they are drunk and half naked.

Parking is on a lottery system but most people end up getting parking spaces. The best lot is PSB which is about 5 minute walk from the dental school. It costs around $450 per semester. There is parking at the Shrine Theater that is less expensive but more of a walk. There is also the university parking center that is considerably cheaper but a long walk or a shuttle ride away. Most people prefer PSB lot for ease and safety.

what about park la brea? is that too far?

just remember there is ALWAYS traffic in LA. spend a little more and live closer to campus...you'll be glad you did
