When did you all submit? And how were you contacted? I'm really interested in USC!!
I want to go to the interview as a chance to see if they have improved their operations.
For those with interview invites, or even those who are patiently waiting like myself, did USC update your AADSAS Portal? Because for me, USC isn't even listed, or are they one of those schools that don't use portal.
mines not listed either. but how about your USC portal? does yours say invited for interview or something? mines still says under review
I'll be attending the interview, but I have some doubts because I've heard some bad things about USC in the previous years. I want to go to the interview as a chance to see if they have improved their operations.
I have some friends who are D3s and D1s at USC right now, and they all have said that they absolutely love it. D3s definitely think that SC is going on an upward trend and that the program is much better now than it was a few years ago. I think it just takes a while for a school's reputation to turn back around after things have gone south. From what I've heard, PBL still exists to a degree but there are still lecture style classes as well... not 100% sure though.
Where is everyone staying?? I've interviewed there before, and stayed at the vagabond inn that was really close but it was kinda sketchy....any other suggestions?? The radisson is 200/night...
No idea as of yet. I have to fly in from NC, hotel and rental car.
Looking like I will fly in on Tuesday the 25th in the PM, then fly out on Wednesday in the PM. I haven't heard of any "socials" going on..
What hotels are close?
im also flying from north carolina, how you doin it?????
do they accept a lot of their interviewees? Neither of my ADA books gives a number..
In my interview there last year, we were told they accept about 50% of their interviewees. (I was a post-December interview so I don't know if that rate is higher for pre-December.) Good luck!
i heard from another individual that interviewees also received a letter stating that they would be put on the waiting list at the very least.. is this true?
Yup, dskies is right. Everyone who gets interviewed gets put on the wait-list. They say you can get a phone call anytime up to 3 days after school starts because they even get drop-outs during orientation week. (A dental student there said in his admitting year, 5 people got called off the wait list the week school started!!) That said, I have no idea what the odds are of getting called off the wait-list. However, if you really want to know, there is a thread floating around somewhere called something like "Has anyone heard from USC lately??" from last cycle and lots of people there posted when they got called off the wait list.
You don't get rejected until well after school starts. I just got my rejection letter a few weeks ago...freaked out thinking it was for this year but then realized it was for last year's cycle. 😉
Hey everyone! keep your spirits high. USC is probably the only school that interviews late. Last year, I interviewed in February/March. I love USC because the faculty members and students are really helpful. You do have to teach yourself a lot though but I think that is everywhere. If you stay positive and active in your studies at USC, you should be fine. Start carving teeth out of wax now! Haha... 🙂 Let me know if anyone has any questions. Go Trojans!
At any school, if you dedicate yourself enough and study hard you'll do well and pass the boards.
I feel like what most people want to know is, how well does the school prepare you for it? I can probably skip undergraduate, study on the DATs myself straight out of high school and get a good score. However, I can say for sure attending a competitive undergraduate program has made it easier for me to study.
From what you have said, saying that you have to teach yourself a lot and should start carving teeth now (probably a joke...) but the point is, it shows that USC in fact doesn't do as well of a job preparing their students as they should.
Now, no way am I bashing on USC. I actually applied there myself. However, from what I've seen from other schools through interview, tours, and reading online, I feel like they do a better job in preparing the students to pass the boards and be clinically adept. I don't know if it was this thread, but USC has a board pass rate of 80% I think someone said? I had an interview a few days ago and I asked the interviewer and they had a pass rate of 95%+
The point is, not saying USC is a bad school. Just that their curriculum might not be as affective as other schools and I believe that is what most people are concerned about.

Anybody here going October 26? I'm flying in from Oregon late on the 25, getting a hotel. Flying back after the interview on the 26. Any idea on cab fare from LAX to USC?

does it matter which set of papers we submit to them when we get there, the one they sent to us in the email or the one in the mail?
The reason I ask is that i filled out the secondary on the one they sent in the email because i have chicken scratch for handwriting lol and dont want to do it again...pchem is killing my butt in studying lol
I'm in exactly the same situation. Pchem is rough. Is the USC supplemental application pretty long? I haven't looked at it yet.
