I was wondering if anyone has any experience rotating here as an MSIV. I know it's pretty hectic and exciting there but do you get adequate teaching here and attention for the rotation to truly be worthwhile? Any opinions are appreciated. Thanks.

It depends what you want and how you learn. I went there and loved it, and I still have a place in my heart for LAC. There hasn't been a question about the quality of the residents and faculty there, for at least the last 8-10 years.

In any case, the longer I've been in residency and more I've worked with our rotating students, the less certain I am of what education goals there should be for our students... four weeks is really a drop in the bucket of your training.

I think the most important reason to rotate there is to see if you belong in a county hospital. When you apply for residencies, county programs will want to see proof that you know what it's like and that you'll be happy there. And, you want to know for yourself, too.

I'm rotating there right now (this is my last week - time flies!) And I absolutely love it. I mean, it rocks - you see everything: tons of trauma, crazy pathology you've only read about... if you like county, you'll love this place.

There's an hour lecture every weekday by an attending, and these are generally very good; there's also Thursday (9am-1pm) grand rounds which is fantastic. Some of the attendings here are legends and working with them has really been like icing on the cake for this rotation. USC isn't for everyone, and you do work very hard, but I think you get a lot for your efforts.

Let me know if you have any specific questions and i'll post my answers.

Did a rotation there early 2006. Very county, lots of pathology. If you listen to EMRAP, you can place the faces behind the voices. Great experience.
