I am having a very tough time deciding between USC and Creighton. I am from Northern California and will definitely be back to practice in Cali. Does it pay to go to a Cali school or one that is close to 150k cheaper?

NO big about coming to practice back in Cali after schooling outside of the state. Especially since you won't even be in the same region of the state with USC. Now, there is a drastic difference between the living experience you'll have in NE and SoCal. If you don't mind studying (cuz that's all were really going to do the next 4 years) in a less exciting and WAY CHEAPER area for your schooling then I would say Creighton. Your decision I think should be more between paying the money and living in a boring area. I would say Creighton cuz you can save that money and definitely come back to NoCal to practice with a significantly less amount of debt. (P.S. I didn't even say anything about the PBL cuz I've come to the conclusion that plenty of people think that style of teaching is OK)

If you're set on moving back to California to practice, you might want to look into what level of difficulty you'll have getting licensed there after you graduate from Creighton. Just a thought.

Difficulty getting back to California should be minimal, the WREB is administered at Creighton and there's the new PGY-1 law where you can get licensure without a regional boards by completing a residency.

Go for the cheaper school, I'm sure there's plenty of fun to be had around Omaha if you look for it. Take up camping, fishing and hiking, discover a new kind of fun. Plus what's more fun then effectively pocketing $150,000?

Great advice. To make things more difficult, which school would be better to go to if I plan to specialize (ortho/endo). I am also wait listed at UOP which wold be great if it pans out.

That doesn't make it more difficult at all, because there's no significant difference.

I have also gotten into USC and Creighton and I have decided to go to USC. I am currently a student at Creighton and take it from me if you want something to do there is not a whole lot to do here but you can get a lot of studying done and it is cheaper. I guess I am just ready to get out of Omaha so I may have a subjective opinion.

You may like to know that the weather in Omaha tends to reach 20-30 below freezing in the worst part of winter (with wind chill). If 5 months of frigid weather doesn't bother you, go for it. USC will certainly have a nicer weather pattern for four years, but probably be just as expensive, if not a little more. (Living costs in LA are definitely higher though...I think tuition is similar, slightly lower at USC if I am not mistaken)

Oh, and USC has a badass football and basketball program 🙂

I'm an idiot by the way, thinking this was a pre-med thread. Guess it doesn't change anything, but I am clueless about tuition differences on this front...

Best of luck deciding...both are great schools.

LA and Omaha are very different places. Which school did you like better when you interviewed? Maybe try to contact current students for more info. How much time do you have to decide?
