Has anybody who was put on hold or, in Keck's case, heard nothing post-interview, heard ANYTHING lately? I called CWRU and USC at the beginning of last month and both schools said 3 weeks. Well, 4 weeks have come and gone and there's not a rudiment of hope-- not even from the Ohians and Los Angelese (i.e., the locals) of SDN. I'm wondering if anybody's withholding valuable insight, or (more probably) there is nothing to be said.

Of course, I'm dying to hear from at least one of these schools soon. While the outcomes are probably waitlists or rejections, it would be nice to know where things stand. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Love
Sham

I've been bugging CWRU and they've been like 'you'll hear by April 15th, stop bugging us.'

sham, you have to call us by our correct names bro. it's "Angelinos". 😎

If you havn't heard from us by now, that means either waitlist or rejection. Unless you felt you had a terrible interview, it's prolly a waitlist. And even if you are waitlisted, I wouldn't worry to much. I think like half of our class gets in off the waitlist.

Noice

Yeah thanks fellas. Jalby- I figured as much. I hate waitlists....bummer, and I guess I hate rejections, too. I've been waiting since 2001 to know where I'll be going to med school and the wait keeps getting prolonged. As for CWRU, that's hilarious, Zoobaby. Yeah I stopped bugging them early March when I learned that pesterance is futile, if not detrimental.

I still check the mail like a fiend. I agree with what Jalby says about USC turnout, but I keep hoping that it's not true. I hope they review the held candidates first, then waitlist, reject, or possibly accept them. Pipe dreams, I suppose. In the meantime, I am very happy about the good possibility of attending UConn next fall. I've sort of wanted to go there from the get-go (I interviewed early decision in August 2001) and I was finally waitlisted.

While I've got all y'alls attention. I have a favor to ask. If you PM somebody looking for advice, and the person responds with a very long and insightful reply, please acknowledge that with a thanks, at the very least. I can name 10 or 11 people who have come to me for advice in private- in the last 5 days - to whom I've responded with at least a page of very personal information, and the person does not say thank you. In one instance, I sent another email, "you're welcome", and the guy who asked the question STILL didn't thank me. I'm not writing long responses FOR the thank-you, but again, a little acknowledgement might be nice.

Nevermind the bullocks

shamthis you had 11 interviews, and still not an accept? What in the heck? Why do you think that is? The odds are about every 5 interviews you should get in one place.

True, SP, el Angelino. However, last year I had 5 interviews and no acceptances. Geldrop, I think your odds prediction is low. It might be more accurate to say every 3 interviews leads to 1 acceptance for 'normal' people.

the worst anecdote i've seen is a friend of mine from college who applied two years ago. great guy, sure he interviewed well, great numbers (3.7+ and 33 MCAT from emory).....11 interviews.....ONE acceptance, off the waitlist over the summer to Vandy.

I've said it before and i'll say it again: thank god i'm NOT from california

Hey Sham...what's up?
Just here to shed a bit of positive over this thread. I jgot a little depressed when I read what Jalby said the in an earlier post, so I decided to call today. Thay said that their class is NOT full, and that they have not made all their admissions decisions yet. Acceptances will be sent out in April! And who knows, mabey one of them will be for us!! Don't believe enerything you hear, sometimes it is best to get your info from the source.
GOOD LUCK! and let know if you get anything in the mail.
cheer, CCHieb's

Thanks, CCHieb's- your post just CCHiered me up a little. In the spirit of your post, I called CWRU to learn that either a rejection or waitlist letter will be sent my way on Friday or early next week. That was very disconcerting news. CWRU and USC are equally top CCHoice's for me, and where CWRU's words were somewhat upsetting, yours lifted my spirits.

And thank you for keeping this post alive. When you're working real hard and decide to sneak a few SDN minutes at work, nothing beats seeing a post you wrote at the top of the board. I CCHruly wish you the best of luck and I still dream of moving to LA this fall.

  You are too much!!

My information is from what happened last year and a USC Phd student applying right now. Last year, the last outright acceptance on this board happened near the end of march, and everybody else got waitlisted with one exception. But historically (Last two aplication cycles) by this time we have accepted at least 168 (Our class size)

The Phd student told me something which I wasn't sure I believed, so I'm not even sure that I posted what she told me.

Shamthis,
Does this mean that there is no chance of an acceptance for those of us who are on hold at CASE (according to what you were told)? I was just told last week that we would hear mid-april.. like our letters had stated.. I had not thought to ask WHAT we might be hearing.

..and I thought I was still in the game!

🙁 - luw

My friend broke down and called Case - they're sending out letters today.

hey y'all,
i just wanted to throw you some well-wishes and good luck. i'm almost 4 months post-interview from USC with no word, and it's to the point i don't know what matters more to me -- financial aid info from where i'm likely to end up, or ANYTHING from USC. it's weird, i felt out of place in LA (i'm sorry, but it's so big, and i feel like i'd get lost immediately), but i loved Keck. i'd rather know for sure that i was on hold or waitlisted or rejected than be strung along like this. ah, well. such is life. sorry to vent, and good luck to everyone waiting....

USC is not a rolling school, therefor most people won't get acceptances until the very end. It is semi-rolling, so only the very best students get acceptances early. And besides, it is only early April.

Jalby...you confuse me so much.
On a different thread, you told shamthis that if he hadn't heard yet, he was most likely waitlisted or rejected. Now your story has changed...which is true??? Don't worry, this explaination is actually not for me. I have learned not to string my hopes to what peoples say on SDN, but I think some of your comments are depressing a lot of people! If you are stating a theory make it clear. At first, I though that perhaps you were on an admissions commitee or something, now I am going to guess all your theories are just coming from your own experiences...which are great! Just make it clear (seeing as people are getting a bit stressed as May approaches) if you are stating facts or opinions. Thanks!!

Hahaha CCHieb's, I was thinkin the same thing. I'm wonderin', "did somebody hijack Jalby's name?" Either way I love Jalby's new school of thought--- let's just hope for the best.

My coherent theory (from my experiences from last year and from the amount of people I know already got in)

USC is semi rooling. They let the majority of the people in at once. But, I believe that deadline has already passed, so I think they let everybody in and if you havn't heard you are are on the waitlist or rejected (although I only knew one person on SDN who got a rejection, and like 10-15 people who got waitlisted) The last batch of outright acceptances was about March 15-20th. I also believe that they are done giving outright acceptances because all of my friends who I thought would get in (And some I didn't) got in already, so I think a lot of acceptances have been given out.

Last year, a bunch of people didn't know anything at about March 20 (I know the dates cause I got in March 15th). All of them recieved either wistlist or the one rejection in about early april. I was telling the other poster that she shouldn't be expecting to hear anything til right about now. I would strongly encourage you to write a letter of intent if you really want to go.

The first person got off the list June 5th (Hero, from SDN), and a bunch of people on here got in (maybe 10????), the last of them 7 days before schools started. So I wouldn't worry to much if you are on the waitlist. (nobody has recieved a waitlist letter yet, so I'm guessing next few weeks everybody not in yet will get one) Sorry if I am depresing you guys, but you really shouldn't be. If you got the interview and really want to go, you should get in.

PS, I typed up the match list for all you guys. Check it out once you get a chance.

shamthis you seem very interested in USC or CWRU. If either of them are your top choice, you should write them a letter telling them so. Perhaps it may tip the balance to your favor.

I would like to revise my formal statement. I just remembered that there was a few people who got acceptances a week before the second look day, which would be next week. It wasn't and SDNer, so that's why I didn't remember it.

Besides, good news might be in your mailbox right now, Doc Ivy just got in (She did interview about 2 weeks ago)
