USC or UCLA?

Hi,

Could someone please tell me the pros and cons of USC and UCLA? I would really appreciate some input, especially from dental students who attend there. Thanks in advance!

hey a_ledoux,

I have the same problem here man! I'm split b/w Penn and Columbia. I'm actually from the east coast so I have limited knowledge of USC and UCLA. But as far as I've researched, isn't UCLA much harder school to get in as well as much cheaper? (if you're a cali resident that is). That's my two cents. good luck!

perform a search on both schools in the forum and you will find more info than you ever wanted to know about both schools...

but from what i remember off the top of my head:

UCLA
- better research reputation
- students are more competitive
- higher percentage of students who want to and do specialize

USC
- patient pool is small (not a good thing)
- less competitive
- MORE EXPENSIVE

actually, UCLA, not USC has a small patient pool since it is in a wealthier area. USC gets most of LA's underserved population.

don't let the size of patient pool influence you. There are many other standards of comparison. The fact is that UCLA prepares students clinically and graduates them on time even though they may have to work harder in the patient pool department. UCLA's calibre of education far outweighs this glich.
