The process is changing on July 1, so unless you have already had your first training session ("core orientation") and can hustle through your state-specific training (unlikely), you are going to fall under the new rules.

Under the old rules, I received my core orientation in vet school (Ohio State arranges for a USDA official to administer the orientation to all of the senior students as a part of clinics), then I did a region-specific training last fall after I moved to Massachusetts. My accreditation number arrived just last month. It is not an expedited process by any means.

Under the new rules, an additional training session ("initial accreditation training") is required before the core orientation.

After you have completed the training requirements, you fill out an application including the category (kind of split up between small animals and large animals, but with some exceptions) in which you need to perform accredited duties. They then process your application and send you a letter with your personal accreditation number after everything has been reviewed.
