hey! i know this is often a debatable question..should I use the same PS for AACOMAS as for AMCAS... or should i include a brief mention of why DO in my aacomas essay? I would love to hear some advice especially from med students that went through both amcas and aacomas..thanks!

Yes, I used largely the same PS but did incorporate some information underscoring why my past experiences and future goals were in line with DO missions. GL! :luck:

hi there! thanks for the reply...can you elaborate on what you mean by the "DO mission"...do you mean elements like OMM, the wholistic appraoch, etc?

Yes, OMM, holistic insofar as their approach to applicants (e.g., experience > stats), and the generally higher number of PCPs churned out of DO schools as compared to their MD counterparts. Even though many MD schools boast these missions, I feel like it helps to explain why you think it'd be different and more fitting for you at a DO school. Remember, DO schools are sick of sifting through, interviewing, and accepting students that applied solely as a safety and end up withdrawing (hence the hefty deposit fees). Just try to convey that you actually want the DO. Also, be careful about saying that DOs are more holistic than MDs, a commonly stated and hotly debated issue. :luck:

I used the same PS, just had to cut out a small chunk due to the lower character limit.

Ugh, I didn't realize there was a lower character limit for AMCOMAS!! Do you know what it is?

The PS limit is 4500 characters including spaces and punctuation. The experience limit is 750 characters including spaces and punctuation. I just logged back in to check for you. 🙂

I used the exact same PS for both, except I did a word search for "physician" and replaced it with "osteopathic physician."

Worked for me 👍

I used the same PS minus a few things due to the shorter AACOMAS character limit. I didn't mention osteopathic medicine at all in my PS still had great results with II and acceptances. Got a good opportunity to talk about osteopathic medicine in the secondaries and at the interviews. My personal statement just basically described why I have decided to become a physician and why I am fit for it.

If that's the case, I wouldn't alter it too much. I had no idea what I was doing at the time. And while I still had great results, I would've preferred to have saved the time and effort if possible.
