So, I have interviewed here. I also couldn't find much information on this (or other) places online regarding the program.
My impression was overall very positive. I got the impression that both PD and faculty are motivated and very committed to resident education. The overall feeling of the program was "young" and the general feel was that they were moving in the right direction. I feel that the opportunities for research are there but you may have to seek them out a little more when compared to some other programs in the region. But there is no end to the support/guidance/mentorship that you would get from the Neuro Department. In fact there is a formal mentorship program, where the PD is your mentor during PGY1 and then you choose based on interests during PGY2 and on....
TGH is nice. You cant beat the location.... I mean Tampa bay views from the hallways and conference rooms!! NICE. The NICU is huge, I think its like 40 beds or something. The Program is frontloaded program and nightfloat system is in place and TGH is a huge place... no shortage of path and a diverse patient population. Free parking at the sites (rotate at TGH, and VA) except for Moffitt Cancer center... Didnt get to see the VA, but i think thats where your continuity clinic is (?) and programs like Dementia.... (?) .... but im assuming its like any other VA....
They are looking to expand in the near future... not this year though.... from 5 -> 6 residents... good sign I think... the residents seem to work hard but I feel they still have a good quality of life. PGY2s were able to meet for lunch and chat on the interview day (which is a good sign 🙂 ).... I think like 1/3 pursue academics if thats for you... and a direct quote "most residents get their choice of Fellowship options" for what thats worth... Also seem to have strong ties with the Florida Neurology Society (?) with residents involved in the government and research of this organization.... And from my opinion if your interested in Pain this is the place to be... PD is Pain trained and Interventional Pain fellowship in the Neurology Department (only one in the country (?) maybe? but not sure.... its not my particular interest... but if its yours i think it would be work an extra look.....)
Thats basically all I got... In general I feel the Residents are happy and VERY competent! Lots of Path and Nice facilities (at least TGH, didnt tour any where else). I think there is strong support from the Faculty and they are Motivated to grow the department,, which is always nice and they want their residents to succeed (not that this is unique but it was obvious). If you want a career in pain... take a look FOR SURE!
Nice place, solid training... It is worth the look!
