Can I write a client's first name only and no descriptors besides "petite" and "spoke spanish". They were not a medical patient, just a client that I was helping with getting some government benefits.

I can change it to a fake first name, but it's not like the med schools would know if it was fake or not. So...

I don't think its a HIPPA violation but I'm scared anyway lol

Thanks for any help

errr if its not medical related, it kinda can't be a HIPAA violation...

Change the name, omit irrelevant identifying details. No big deal, problem solved

No. Not appropriate. It's not about HIPPA. It's not right to include a first name, real or not. You can convey your message without doing this.

^this is just incorrect with absolutely no justification for why it's "not right". Dont make up random rules and put yourself at a disadvantage for no reason. First name is fine, especially if its extremely common, initials are also fine and used all the time in med school.

Take a cue from most scientific researchers and use initials. The most famous amnesic in history is H.M. Most papers I've read refer to the patients as C.V. or S.L. Do the same thing here.
