Hey,

First off, I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis about two years ago and now the time is coming to take Step 1. I receive accommodations at school, and applied for accommodations with NBME, but I have read horror stories about people with brain tumors, MS, severe learning disabilities not receiving accommodations. Has anyone with IBD applied for accommodations, and if so? What was the result?

Also, they are taking a ridiculously long time to review my application. The lady said it would take 60 days AFTER the preliminary review, which has already taken over a month and they won't give me an indication of when that will be done. So, I am looking at > 4 months to get my application reviewed potentially? Barely gives me enough time to sign up for the test, but I am determined to see this through. How long did everyone else's requests take?

Thanks so so much!

This was quite awhile ago. My sister is applying for accommodation for MCAT, would be curious about your result for accommodation for NBME. I've heard from quite a few folks who did get accommodations for MCAT, with successful results. Please advise, Thx

The MCAT is administered by the AAMC, the USMLE is administered by the NBME even though you take both at Prometric. Prometric is contractually required to implement whatever procedures dictated by the test administration organization, it doesn't have any uniform standards or regulations of its own. Since MCAT and USMLE are administered by 2 different organization, the procedures (and accommodations) will be different.

Unless you are asking for your sister in anticipation for something that will happen 3yrs+ from now...

Yes, if she is successful in getting into Med School with a 3.95 GPA (takes MCat in Nov), would be curious about accommodations for NBME, assuming that an accommodation for the MCAT would need to be part of the package (the list was HUGE for the MCAT accommodations, we had to submit 12 documents/letters/reports for the MCAT accommodation). Am wondering the the results for this student.
