Hello,

I am a current PGY2 IM resident preparing to apply this cycle for Rheumatology. I took USMLE step 1 and did poorly on it. As such I didn't take step 2 and just did COMLEX for the other steps.

I remember for residency I had to report USMLE if taken. Does this rule still apply for fellowship applications? If I do have to report it will it hurt my chances of matching? I have great letters, chief resident, presented at a national conference etc.

Thank you!

Yes. But it will mostly be ignored or at least only be a small part of your overall app at this point.

Technically, there's a clause somewhere in the ERAS agreement that you'll report it. That said, no one has any clue whether you took it or not, and I know several DOs that have applied to fellowship without reporting their sub-par USMLE scores without getting caught. Do what you want.
