Hey, long time no post (a couple years anyway)

Anyway, I just wondered if anyone knows how much a students test scores in year 1, and especially year 2, correlate to USMLE scores. Let me know if you have any info. Thanks!

I'd surmise that there is a decent correlation, but this has less to do with the quality of the school exams than it does about the committment and neurosis of the students taking them.

At my school, the administration gave a presentation on last year's scores. The message: there was a decent correlation with med 2 exam scores, not as much with med 1. However, the reason they wanted us to see the graphs-there were a couple people who aced med 1 and med 2 and got crummy scores (first lesson: don't get overconfident and forget to study) and probably three times as many people who did OK to crummy on med 1 and med 2 and aced Step 1 (second lesson: it's never too late to pull one out of your butt).
And the third lesson... although there's a correlation, it's nowhere near strong enough to predict any individual Step 1 performance, because it's those last 4 weeks of Board prep that will make all the difference.
