hi. i'm still a couple months away from taking step 1, but i am curious how the text on the monitor is formatted. really i am curious because it is really tiring to read text that is in multiple fields of vision and spans the entire length of the screen instead of in one field of vision such as a column. i think i know the answer already, but am going to throw it out there anyway. cheers.

Download the sample from the USMLE website. The layout is the same as for the actual test.

I argee with C. The q-bank format is also quite similar.

i have a question too, i know you probably don't need a calculator, but do they allow you to use scrap paper? i'm used to taking written tests and writing in the margins, so i need to know whether or not i need to change my technique.

The will give you a few dry erase boards with markers for usage during the test.
