****This thread is reserved to those who have already taken the Step I

After going through countless threads I thought I would make this one to consolidate bits of info.
My big questions are these:
1) To obtain a perfect score on the Step I, which subjects does First Aid not cover in enough detail or at all?
2) Which resources would people have used to supplement what is missing in First Aid in order to cover everything that may be tested on the Step I?

--> when I say missing in First Aid I literally mean completely omitted. Not understanding something that is written in First Aid and needing to use another source to clarify it does not count as something First Aid does not cover.

Please posters, you know who you are, avoid saying 'I think that this would be good....etc. etc.' if you have not already taken the exam.

Thanks. I'm sure this will be valuable to a lot of people if we can get some good responses.

This test should not be about the perfect score...there is no list of books that will get you a perfect score, specially when basic sciences are advancing so fast and things are first posted as journal articles=>=>=>=>books=>=>=>=>=> review books. The questions are fair game before they are in review books or even books.

any way...I've got nothing...I studied FA and UW and I can assure you there are things that this two sources miss on. Although you can easily get the 99 based on this two sources if you take your time on them.

I was not trying to be an *****h#$!e with the title but I do think is useless to spend time thinking of a perfect score. Besides, rumors about some one actually getting it and only ended up taking the test again cause of suspicion about cheating. I read it here so no actual facts there.

i am aspiring to do my best. if i set my sights for a 220 then i'll prob get a 200. if i set my sights for a 300 and give it my best i'll come as close as i can get. spare me your opinion about it being 'useless to spend time thinking of a perfect score' --> that isn't smart thinking.
why did you post this helpless piece of info?
since you didn't get every question correct your studying obviously had holes in it. you utilized only FA and UW.
had you used other sources do you think you would have scored better?
if so which ones?
i.e. if you got a bunch of micro questions incorrect because FA wasn't broad enough you should have used a supplementary source like CMMRS.

please people spare me the philosophy. if you had a lot of time to study for this exam which sources would be utilized?

Your question is pretty clueless, Step 1 doesn't ask factoids that if only you had memorized more, you would have gotten right. Most questions that people get wrong are really just simple concepts disguised under some pathology.

Go do some questions instead of fantasizing, you'll get an idea of how it works.

so if you understood every concept and were able to integrate every concept in first aid you'd get close to perfect?
and i'm the one asking a stupid question?

fine i will rephrase it.

how can you make yourself the best candidate to get the highest score awarded in this year's USMLE Step I.

is that as stoopid

You could install a hardrive in your brain and memorize everything you wanted and still miss tons of questions. Half the battle is learning how to think critically and fast not to mention accurately.

I hate to say it, but the guy who got 276 spent like at least 4 years studying. He did 10 000 questions and read every review book the world has ever produced, so I don't know how relevant his strategy is for the common mortal...

oh believe me, by posting that link, I wasn't saying that it could be done by any common mortal. And even if it could be done, I'm not sure I would want to spend that much of my life on it. It just seemed like an appropriate response to the OP.

this beginging post by op was such a waste of my time.

Hey guys i have to take my driving test tomarrow.....how can i score a perfect score?? (i am thinking I should complain and waste my time on here instead of studying.....am i right?)🙄

You'll need First Aid for the DMV, High Yield Parallel Parking, and Left-Hand Turns Made Ridiculously Simple. If you have time, there's also some really helpful bootleg driver's ed audio you could listen to.

lol:laugh:

many many many questions will be most helpful once you are comfortable with the material... but no one gets a perfect score... and .01% gets close.

i am going to post my score on this forum next year.

make sure to quote the above.

then i'll provide helpful advice that you tools failed to provide.
except mcgillmd and kookai

you're the tool, buddy. No one is going to take you seriously when you ask about getting a perfect score! that's such an arrogant approach to asking for help. also, there are so many threads on here with genuine advice about how to get an extremely high score. eat some humble pie, please.

well, there's no harm in trying. Too ambitious it may sound... a perfect score. Who doesn't want it? May not be impossible, but a very long shot. No one's gonna stop you of giving it a try. Dream big kid, nothing's wrong with it... being a Physician aint about perfect ambitions, it's more on "perfect" intentions. Humility is better than pride. Just my 2 cents. 🙂

i rephrased it earlier.
if someone asked me how to get a perfect score on the mcat i would provide them with lots of helpful advice.
if someone said, if i just read my old class notes will that be enough? will that be a good approach? would i be missing things?

i could answer those questions quite easily.

why do people have heart attacks when you ask what resources you need to use to score the highest?

it really isn't about pride. i just said i'd post my score out of spite lol.

but i agree. if i have the ambition/time to study for it then why wouldn't i put a 100% effort into it?
i don't want to waste time with resources that are out of scope and at the same time since i do have time to cover "extra" resources (outside of FA, RR path, UW) why not utilize them in the most efficient way possible?

why is this a stupid question is beyond me.
aspiring to do well is something we should all do.

if you all didn't work hard enough to earn the scores you wanted don't try to bring others down to make yourselves feel better.

i don't have to take the test for a year.

Perfect score?

-Take all the NBMEs x 2
-Do UW x 4 times
-Read Goljan x 10 times
-Listen to Goljan x 10 times all the way through
-Memorize First Aid at the end of every week for the next year
-Read and understand BRS Physiology x 3
-Read Kaplan Biochem x 5 times
-Read Step up to Medicine x 5 times
-Rinse and repeat thrice.

Good luck
