Hey guys-
Im getting ready to prepare for the COMLEX 3 exam. I have the USMLE Kaplan step 2 notes, if i read this, do you think it would be good enough, along with first aid to pass comlex 3? I havent been able to find usmle kaplan step 3 notes, so i thought i would just stick with my usmle kaplan step 2 notes since the material is mostly the same. thanks!
hey, plan sounds good, USMLE World and Kaplan step 2 ck notes, and if you are in a primary care residency sounds like you are set... if not then you should add premier review to your knowledge.
STAY FAR AWAY from kaplan step 3 notes, they are complete garbage, and the live lectures make the notes even much worse and more confusing. I think that they should just eliminate the step 3 course, it is horrid and incomplete, riddled with errors.
What Kaplan thinks is a "good" idea, is presenting an abbreviated version of the step 2 ck notes and course. This is a terrible idea, as it is not even close to enough information to pass the test. They even conveniently "skip" ethics and epidemiology, even though it conveniently comprises 5 to 7 % of the test.
Kaplan idiots, if you are reading, are examinees that PAID big bucks for your stupid course, expected to just "wing it"????? I dont know about you, but I wouldnt just let 5 to 7 percent of your test go to waste. Premier Review is much more comprehensive, do that and USMLE World and you should do just fine. Kaplan step 3 notes and course not only just "wing" 5 to 7 % of the test, they skip the majority of the test to be perfectly honest.
Nothing that they cover is relevant to USMLE Step 3, they vaguely describe things that "might" be tested, but cummon, everybody knows that HTN and DM will be tested. You could learn alot more from Dr. G Medical examiner, and Discovery channel and Grey's Anatomy, than you can from a Kaplan step 3 course. Use your own discretion and money.
If you have alot of money and time to spend, dont waste it on Kaplan.
Take a vacation instead, or give that money to charity and a worthwhile cause, not to Kaplan. Kaplan teachers are all private practitioners, engrossed only in their own daily lives. They have no academic knowledge at all whatsoever. Academic knowledge, in the sense that the USMLE examinations are changing the shift of their hy topics every so often, so it might just be a good thing to keep up with the NBME and USMLE, if you are running a boards review course -- that would only make sense would it not?
The exception is Mark Hill from Surgery, he is good too, but way too superficial for step 3 purposes. The others are private practitioners, or people with severe emotional / behavioral issues that couldn't ever hold an academic position due to harassment and disciplinary issues. Do not sit too close to the front row, they will harass you for hy topics covered on the USMLE examinations. Isn't that pathetic? They actually need to ask people that signed up and paid for their courses, to learn more about the examinations that they accepted huge monetary amounts to teach about. Pathetic.
Good luck.
