Hey quick question for anyone who has taken both of these already. Which one would you suggest taking first and how far apart did you all take them? I was thinking of preparing mainly for the USMLE, taking that first and then cramming OPP for a couple of days before the COMLEX, but I'd like to get some advice from people who have taken both before I sign up. Thanks in advance for any info/advice

while im only an MS2 and haven't done this yet, it seems to be the opinion by my ms3 colleagues that you should take the USMLE first and than a week later take the COMLEX - and during that week you study OMM.

thanks a lot for the info...that was pretty much what I've been hearing and just wanted to confirm it.

same here...I'd rather cram OMM for a few days then take the COMLEX, then cram biochem and molecular.....and as for the extra bugs and drugs that the COMLEX throws at you...you might as well know them extremely well for the USMLE.....

I'm also a little concerned about post-board burnout syndrome that I've seen a lot of my upperclassmen go through. I noticed this especially with those that decided to take COMLEX first. They were so spent after the first exam, that they all felt they put in a half-hearted effort for the USMLE's a week later.

This may not be very politically correct, but if I had to pick an exam to have a stronger showing in... I'm going all out with the USMLE.

pc or not...that was also one of my considerations.... a "decent" comlex score won't close the same amount of doors as an "only" decent usmle score....

As long as I get a 400 on the COMLEX and a 240+ on the USMLE, I will have no complaints, PC or not.

The AOA can kiss my brown ass.

I'm gonna need to do an internship (MD&DO both need one before PM&R) and I may practice in PA (one of the infamous "5 states")....so to get a spot in a top quality local AOA TRI I'm gonna have to do atleast halfway decent on the COMLEX....

Welp, looks like my two top choices, Hopkins and Ohio State, both accept the COMLEX = unlikely I will take the USMLE.

Dont laugh about Hopkins - they are very DO friendly in terms of Anesthesiology.
