Dear Colleagues,

I'm an American IMG with a step 1 score of 238, I want to go into either IM, EM,or Family Medicine. Do you think that having an above average score will guarantee me a spot in a less competitive specialty?

Thanks for any advice/feedback.

I think you're definitely in a good place in terms of probability....but at least from what I've learned/been told...NOTHING is guaranteed. Do your best in all your remaining clerkships blahblahblah...and don't come off as a sociopath/arrogant prick at your interview.

Hi,

I had a similar question, as I am also an American IMG. What kind of scores do IMGs need for a shot at more competitive residencies. I scored a 249, but it just seems that a 240's score (as good as it may be) is not what it used to be. Not to add IMGs usually need to be on the higher side of the average. Have any IMGs with a similar score recently been able to match into the more competitive fields (ie. radiology, etc.)?
