I just saw on the USMLE web site that for anyone who took the exam between May 20th (or around that date) and June will have thier scores on July 19th!
What the 😱 ?? They said that there was a chance that you could get your scores earlier...I was wondering...
has anyone who took thier exam in May gotten thier scores yet?

They usually take 3 weeks, but they are saying that the volume of test takers is high right now, so it may take longer!
I need my scores back asap! :scared:

I am hoping that they are just using July 19th as a safe date and that score are coming in faster!

Hey there,

Took step 1 3rd week of may, then found out about the delays. I called nbme a few times ; the most recent update is that the scores will be sent out on july 12th and july 19th, no earlier, no later.

I think this absolutely sucks. Did we not pay the same ridiculous 450 bucks as everyone else who gets their scores in 3 weeks?

If anyone hears anything new that hints we might get scores earlier (or if anyone testing in late may - early june actually gets their scores this month) please post.

NBME can eat me.

Hi guys. I had a few friends that took the USMLE May 19 and they got their score back already.

So yeah just wait!

wait,

So not only have I been lied to directly three times on the phone, but people are already getting their scores back from may 19th?

Took mine on may 20th, still no "score report date" when i log into the nbme website. Anybody get their scores who took it on the 20th?

those that got took the test May 19 said there was a score report date of Wednesday of last week (June 14). So I would assume if you took it on May 20, you'd see a score report Wednesday or early tomorrow.

You took it on a Saturday? I didn't knwo they offered it on saturdays

Interesting -- I took it May 20th also, and my scores were released last Wednesday (the 14th). Sorry to hear that you are still waiting. My last name is early in the alphabet -- maybe that has something to do with it, or maybe they are simply releasing the higher scores later. 🙂 I was scared but also sort of relieved to see that mine were ready; I had finally gotten used to the idea of waiting another month, so it really took me by surprise.

thanks for posting guys.

Just checked the website -- still no score release. I guess I'll be waiting at least one more week.

I hope it does have something to do with the alphabet, but my gut tells me its just random.

A situation I heard about from someone I know at another med school.

Person A takes test sooner than Person B (like, a week before).

Person B gets scores back before Person A.

WTF?!

Person A was in the pool of test takers in which "modifications" are being made. Person B was not. Thus, Person B gets scores back in 3-4 weeks and Person A has to wait until July 19.

That's just messed up.

I wonder what these "modifications" are. So shady.

ARRRrrrghhh... June 1st test taker... still waiting. I know it's only been a little over 3 weeks but I want my scores back damnit!

Its like the scab that I keep picking at. Or the band aid that needs to be ripped off quickly. Except in this situation, the band aid is attached to the scab, and NBME is slowly pulling it away from my skin (like a ren and stimpy cartoon); little hairs attached and everything.

Egghhh... 👎

so i took it june 1st as well. As i was searching online today, i found a post on prep4usmle in which an individual who took it on May 29th had theirs updated this past week. I think that means that all of us June 1st test takers have a very very very high likelihood of getting our oasis update this week. Heres to praying for something good.

If you've read the above posts, though, it seems that some people from the mid-May are still waiting for their scores. You may get your scores this week, but I probably wouldn't count on it. The order in which some people are getting their scores seems rather random.

Where is this place where you guys are all finding out your score status?

Log on to the nbme page and click exam report status. On the right hand side there a column for score report date. If you're test has been graded there will be a date there.

And then with this information, you should be able to go to your student office on campus and ask if they received a score report. You will appear as the impatient medical student, but who cares when it comes to finding out where you are going in the next two years.

That sounds like an idiotic system. The last thing I want if I get a score signficantly lower than I expect is someone in the office of student affairs congratulating me for passing the exam or something like that.

I think that the modifications involve getting enough population data to form an accurate curve plot since we all got different questions. Therefore they have to have enough data from each question given to give an accurate mean and SD. So some of us will get it a little later than the others.

Since I've got nothing better to do than to second guess at this point,

I'm thinking that one of the above posters is right, and that this isn't random: either we're in the regular pile or the "modified" pile. So I guess unless you get your scores within 3-4 weeks, you're waiting for the whole delay, until nbme thinks they have "modified" enough (8 weeks).

This is just based on people testing around the same time as me either having their scores released about 3 weeks later or still waiting like me.

But if anyone knows of score release dates that show otherwise, I'd be happy to be proven wrong.....

I could not find this. Anyone have any more detailed instructions?

Thanks.

Okay, so I couldn't resist calling to find out if there was anymore info on this inssue.... and I got in touch with someone at NBME who actually knew something (or at least sounded like it)...

So this delayed release thing is not random. Everyone who took their exam in late May or early June was supposed to suffer through the delay and wait two months for their scores. The people who got their scores in 3-4 weeks were lucky enough to test at centers where the administrators did not provide an update file to the nbme in time.

The purpose of the update was to receive a new resource file at each test center that collects data about each test question, and also technical data about the computer and the nbme software, etc/nonsense. Then this info gets sent to NBME - but they need enough testers to make the resource file data reliable, so they chose this time of year every year b/c the volume of testers is so high, allowing them to shorten the time period for collection. The delay is not for collecting information to construct a curve, since there is no curve, and the administration of any single exam (which can occur at more than 1 time point in the year) gives more than enough data to get a reliable mean and SD.

If you tested in late May - early June, either you will get your scores in 3-4 weeks (test center forgot to update) OR your scores will be released on July 12th/July 19th; nothing in between. But none of these "modifications" will affect your scores, which are entirely derived from mean and SD calculations on each exam overall, not individual items.

I don't know whether/how much to believe, but it sounds reasonable. Hope this comforts someone else who will be waiting at least 3 more weeks (possibly 4) to receive their scores in the mail. 🙁

When they say "early June," do they mean like the first week of June, or what? I took it on June 15 and am wondering if I should be expecting the scores next week or there abouts.

According to the previous instructions, I looked up my info on the nbme site and there was no date in the far right column, so I guess that means mine hasn't been graded yet.

From the NBME website:

"The target date for reporting Step 1 scores for most examinees testing from May 19 through late June will be Wednesday, July 19, 2006."

So I miswrote, it's late May (may 19th) through late June, not just through early June. I think June 15th would be included in these dates. But if you took it mid - late June, its not really an issue for you, since you're only waiting about a week extra (if that). It sucks more the earlier you took it in this period, ie for suckas like me that took it May 20th.

Darn.

Just think of it this way. On May 21, you were sleeping in and relaxing while I was studying for another month.

Yeah but now I get to freak out, worry, and obssess for a whole extra month. Seriously, this sucks.

Bump.

Thought I'd just bump this up out of excitement. No score reports were released this week (NBME took the week off for July 4th). But for those of us who have been waiting an ungodly amount of time, a lot of us will be getting our scores in 1 week!, after release on the 12th.

The wait is almost over now.....

Hey nice dream,

Plenty of people, including myself, although clearly not including you, have been waiting since late may for their score reports due to reporting delays. Meanwhile, we've watched others who tested on the same day or even on later test dates receiving their scores before us, while remaining both anxious and patient for 7+ weeks. I expected that some of us, including myself, although clearly not including you, could use a little "pick-me-up". I didn't expect that people not affected by this delay, clearly including you, would find this annoying.

Suck it.

I was just kiddin' Bujji. Good luck, I'm sure it will come soon and will be what you hope for.

Before mid-May, was the NBME releasing scores each week?

I ask because I took my test on June 29. My scores should be released next week, if they are in fact releasing them each week. But if they release them as batches (of say 2-3 weeks at a time), am I going to have to wait a while? :scared: I missed the cutoff by just a couple of days.
